I was under the impression that Gullotine did 1k damage EVERY time you used it Oo damned lieing people >.>

I do think that a DRK/SAM would be an exelent DD, why? this is the math...

ok, first they got Tp Store, which increases your TP gain...so, when you Gullotine at 100%, you get a minumum of 60% back...leaving you with just 40% to get...the SAM level 30 skill fixes this, you get that in 2 secounds ^^ Then Gullotine again, and again...you'll just keep goin as long as that skill is on! ^^

now, I will level THF, SAM, and WAR to 30, but that's the last of my worries now...I'm more concered for the fact that i had no idea DRKs had suck a hard time gettin pts..

It seems to me that Awntawn's whole basis on Drk/Thf is the ability to do Yokodama. Am I right? I'm not saying he is wrong. I just have no clue as to how to do Yokodama. I don't know how things work in the Import because I don't play it. I think its pretty lame that parties just rely on some trick to get Exp or play the game.
I'm going to be playing FFXI on the NA servers with other NA players. If Yokodama is still around by the time most players are that high, and they begin to use it. I suppose I will learn it if I want to. I'm going to be playing primarily a Dark Knight and I do believe that Dark Knight is a very versatile class that can be played many ways. I plan to have enough friends in retail (already made a good chunk in Beta) as to be able to get a party most of the times I need one. I think the important part is knowing how to play your character and not being incompetent. If you can do a good job with whatever combination of stats and abilites you have, people will want to play with you.

heh.. if Square was to nerf Yokodama some how, wouldn't that totally screw most people's nice little party fascisms?

no offence, but you sound like you don't know what Yokadoma is, I want to verify if you do before I explain why it isn't a trick and it makes THF effective, yet they are still overated as a DD, cause they arn't. People, and even THFs, believe they are DDs, but they are DPs instead, they stick stuff to the tank, and happen to do a lot of damage when they do it (and they can't do that high damage too often)

Yokodama, from what I've seen and heard. Is a positioning trick that keeps the enemy focus on the main Tank and makes it very hard for the hate to go to any other character. Without that trick, it seems Thief would be useless to most parties and this whole mentality everyone has about it would fall apart.

Im not very good at pulling Yokodama's myself do to stupid tanks who can't stay still but all it is, damashiuchi (decieve attack) basically an old attack just slightly changed (being the position). So Thiefs would never be useless in a party reguardless if yokodama was intended to be in the game or not. And even if it wasn't ppl will adapt and find other ways.

On how to do it, normal damashiuchi would be :

            Monster
            ^
            Tank
            ^
            Theif

            Yokodama would be:

            Monster
            ^
            Tank<Theif

I was wondering what race seems to be the best for DRK...
Elf with str, mith with dex? hum with balance?
at level 60 plus which seems to come out on top?

                Just a thought . . .

Why would drk/nin be bad? Forget dual-wielding. How about using the level 12 Blink ninjitsu? Also, doesn't DEX affect damage from Vorpal Scythe(or whatever that is)? drk/nin would have pretty high DEX I'd think . . .

did you even read his post? He said forget about dual wielding so that part on the first page is irrelivent...and he has a good point

Pretty sure you can sub anything you want. Also sure that Ninja isnt a bad sub for anything even DRK. If it was why would Sage Sundi be using a LVL 81 DRK with a LVL 40 NIN sub, must not be that bad huh.

GM's have super powers to make up for their gimped up job combinations. I think the GM's just felt pity for the anti-comformists. That or the fact that it didn't really matter wtf the GM subbed because, heck, he's a GM for crying out loud. Dark ninja sounds cool, we can all admit that. It's not, but it does sound so.

Don't get me wrong, every sub has it's plusses. It's just not worth it at times. WAR sub gives a humongous physical attack bonus. THF sub doesn't have it, but it's sneak + trick to get rid of hate makes it worth it. SAM sub doesn't have it, but it's TP charge ability makes it worth it. MNK and DRG sub have good stuff for DRK too, but it's not worth it when considering to the boost that you're not getting from WAR sub. You sub WAR for the most damage, sub SAM to use WS more (more skillchains + the extra TP to use your best WS), sub THF to keep hate. For NIN sub... the thing I said about 1 handed weapons and DRK on the first page. As for subbing purely for the ninjitsu, sure it's a little useful, but considering the humongous attack boost that you're NOT getting, it's not worth it.

Note that these are for LEVEL UP parties and DIFFICULT boss fights, where you are trying your hardest to be the most efficient. When you're playing around with your friends where no one will be mad at you for being gimp, do WHATEVER you like. At later levels, people don't pick fighters just to get a fighter; they pick fighters based on compatability with the other fighters that they have. If they invite you and you don't fit the role of your job, you'll have 5 people extremely disappointed in you (and it stacks).
