    Awntawn,
After I become DRK in NA's retail version you will be my next best friend. lol. I'll be asking you for advices. I see your status that you are now a lvl 64 DRK. If you can do it I don't see the problem getting DRK to that high lvl.

geting to high level doesnt mean alot , I know alot more about rdm class than alot of people and im not 70 yet,
the thing that makes awntawn a great DRK is his player experience and and isight .
character level and player experience are two different animals.
so yes level 70 is great anyone can do it , but the insight gained along the way is what makes us god or bad players.
haha thats why awntawn is good drk

        Taziral,
You are right about it's Awntawn's experience and insight that make him a great DRK. My earlier post about his status is because I saw some posts from other people who play as DRK and they quit after reaching about lvl 40 or 50 because they can't find pt and they died a lot as DRK. In regard to reaching high lvl in this game I think it's a hugh accomplishment, just think the time, money and dedication you have to put into this game.

Indeed...people give up too easily. So what, you have a slightly harder time finding a PT in higher levels, big deal. Tons of classes can't find PT's, just not as drastically as DRK's.

I'm sure if you looked at RNG job board, there'd be tons of complaints. But hey, it comes with the class. It's just an added obstacle to overcome, I hate when people complain that a game is too hard.

The game can never be too hard, your just not putting enough effort in to try harder. Finding a PT, big whoop. If you can't find one, go solo or make some money...or, for that time, become another job as main, like your subjobs...level them up. Find a way around it, and stop complaining about it.

Sentinel lasts for 30 seconds, whereas defender lasts for 3 minutes. Sentinel also creates hate, which you don't want. On the other hand, defender lowers your attack, but that's actually a good thing because if you're getting hit, lowering your damage output is better so it's easier to get the hate taken off of you.

And most of my "experience and insight" came from bugging Xuande and Skye in-game :p They spread me some new info and I always "totally don't believe them" at first, then am forced to eat my words when I catch up weeks later, lol :dead:

you have to play the game to understand why people give up playing the job. Some DRKs can wait for weeks to get an PT invite. So far i am a level 26 war, and i almost have to wait a week in a half for a PT invite. I can see how bad DRKs have it, pting wise. 1 DRK i know waited about 1 week in half until he got a PT invite, and he sounded like that was the best thing that ever happened to him.

After that couple hours of the DRKs PT, it breaks. Then its back to Jeuno to wait another couple of weeks or so, for another PT invite. And while you wait for a PT invite your friends level right past you.

Sometimes i wish i had played a mage insted of a fighter. Getting a PT invite in a couple minutes sounds pretty good to me.

ok, I've idolized you Awntawn, and you've taught me everything I know about DRK...but I have a few questions now...

Ok, in beta, I have played 4 jobs, ironically they are:
WAR-39: I hate WAR, so much it is sick. People think DRKs have a hard time gettin a pt? Think again. WARs have a VERY hard time gettin a pt on Cactuar, because there are sooooo many of them, they are never in demand. DRK on the other hand, is very nice because of their spells, and high damage (the Absorb spells are VERY usefull) I got WAR to 40, then left it...I've died 4 times, and leveled down in that time with WAR, and I don't care...I hate it =P

THF-17: This was my WAR sub...and oh, do I LOVE THF! ^^ The class is soooooo fun to play, but I've yet to try it with DRK, simply because, well...look down

SAM-13: This is my current job, and it's a very fun one, almost as fun as DRK is ^^! I love the whole WS thing, and my LS (levelin with them) just let's me go crazy with WSs since I get TP so fast, I love it! ^^

DRK-25: My favorite job in the game, nothing can top my love for DRK. I love Drain, big Scyths/swords, ect...it's perfect ^^ (my DRK isn't high enough for Sneak Attack, therefor, I havn't tried DRK/THF yet)

ok, well, what would you sugest I do? Should I level SAM, WAR, AND THF to 30 just to be safe? What should I start as? What would you rather be, DRK/THF, or DRK/SAM?

oh, and on the whole pt thing...I have yet to have problems getting a pt...several times, within the first 3 minutes of loggin on I got a pt (lol, once I logged in next to a THF in my LS who was around my level....he'd been sitten there for 10 minutes...I put my seek on and get a pt right away...man he was pissed XD) Does it really get super hard to get a pt? Oo

                      Hisdon,
I think the reson that WAR can't get any invite in beta is becasue a lot people are trying to get to lvl 40 before 09-30 so they can play the expension, Rise of the Zilart. I don't think it will be this bad for the retail version in NA, One thing I do agree with you, DRK is by far the coolest adv. job. I'm leveling in Qufim now and I'm always the one who deals the most damage among all the melee class. I can't wait to get the DRK AF amor in retail, it looks so cool

I hope thinngs don't get this bad in North America when the PC retail version release next month. I can't image waiting for a week to join a pt. This's madness.

Right now, the beta probably doesn't have that many DRGs and SAMs yet, so DRK is the best choice starting level 33~59, because DRK would be the only class that can skillchain with THF's viper bite with an A weapon. DRG and SAM, however, have 2-hit WS's that can chain with viper bite as their first WS, so they're more desirable than DRK for that reason (BTW, DRK's WS's all suck until level 60 >< But guillotine is so good, it's well worth the wait lol. Still, you'll never be in the mainstream party because you'll be the only attacking class (except WAR, but WAR can tank) after level 60 without a powerful thrusting WS, which is needed to connect with THF's WS's, and people love THF too much). As more DRGs and SAMs show up, it gets harder for DRK to get into parties.

Waiting a week for a party invite is just wrong, no matter what class, or game for that matter. There may be some DAYS where you can't get invites, but a week is just ridiculous. Besides, if you can't make your own parties, I don't recommend playing as DRK. I made at least 70% of my own parties as DRK. You should get into the habbit of making your own parties anyways, because then you won't end up in shitty parties made by people who don't know how to do it.

Personally, I dislike the THF sub for a number of reasons. While it is a good class for securing hate (second only to a genuine THF), the cumulative damage output is really low compared to other melee combos (you can get higher digits, but charging TP is much much slower, and the individual hits are really low). While I have yet to try DRK/SAM out myself, I notice that my competition always subs SAM (as well as any other melee fighter except possibly MNK amd SAM itself). Also, I've seen a video with a DRK/SAM in action, and while the one in the video wasn't that good, I can certainly see the potential there.

Since THF and SAM sub aren't really useful until level 60, I recommend you don't bother with them in the beta, because given the time left in the beta (a month or so, maybe less) it's really unlikely that you'll be able to hit 60 AND level both subs to 30 before it ends. For the retail version, however, if you plan on being a DRK in the long run, then I would definately recommend trying to level both subs

P.S. Just checked my PM box, for those who PMed me I'll reply to you tomorrow ^^/ I have a few tests to study for tonight :dead: Thanks for being patient~

I personally would want to be a DRK/SAM more simply because of the nuts amout of Gulltines you can pull off...but DRK/THF sounds more desired by pts...>>

on the WAR note, that has no reason to do with it man, sorry, but the whole gaem as I played WAR, I would wait for hours for a pt. There are too many WARs in the game, period...

Also, I have pted with those few DRGs and SAMs already, and personally I feel (and saw) that the DRK owned them damage wise...I just don't understand why the most practical damage dealer in the game would have a hard time gettin pts...

It seems to me like the DRK is gettin nerfed here...what is the damage of a Dancin Edge Sneak/tricked compared to a Gulltine? I also agree, people like THFs too much cause of their big sneak/tricks and the belief that they do more than a DRK over time...I'd like to see them catch up to a DRK/SAM spittin out Gulltines (btw, I've been hearing, and seen a pic that Guilltine does over 1k damage...is that true)+ the 150 damage a hit....

Yokodama dancing edge does a consistent 700~900 + renkei damage, whereas guillotine does around 500 (but if you miss, it can go to as low as 200 ><) and up to 1200+ every 6 minutes using darkness (and you can keep the darkness up because nothing takes hate away from 1000+ damage + tanking skills, except maybe another pld's 2h). Also, you can guillotine twice per yokodama, whereas THF dancings once every 2~3 yokodamas. In the end, THF keeps hate MUCH better, but the cumulative damage output isn't as nearly high. Still, DRK/THF's damage is about 70% that of DRK/WAR, and DRK/SAM is supposed to do even more. At level 65~66, with the level 225 WS's, DRK is somewhat compatible w/ THF, so there should be many more opportunities to go ask DRK/SAM.

DRK/SAM's individual guillotine's won't be doing as much damage as DRK/WAR or DRK/THF, especially since it's unwise to darkness + guillotine as anything other than DRK/THF (no matter, it's wasting the ability unless you keep it up for the full minute, and only DRK/THF can do that AND use guillotine with it). In the end, however, DRK/SAM does more overall due to quantity.

If for nothing else, I recommend levelling all of the subs simply to make the game more interesting. Sub WAR, THF, and SAM require 3 different macro sets and involve 3 different playing styles. It's like a 3-in-1 job combo. When you get bored of one thing, you can try the other.
