Skilling up and Solo: Am I doing it wrong?

Currently level 61 (~2k from 62). My dagger skill is at 173 (way behind the cap of 198 for my level).

So I roll into kuftal thinking that I can skill up on Robber Crabs. These dudes hit HARD and I have a tough time soloing them and they only con DC and EM. I have pretty decent gear for my level (important stuff being scorp harness, amemet NQ, spectacles, leaping boots, dancer AF hands and legs, precision headband, woodsman/ecphoria combo, darksteel kukri/cermet +1).

Should DCs and EMs be this difficult for me? What am I doing wrong?

Well... What job are you playing as? Depending on the job depends on how hard something is to solo. If you are dnc main, then you should have no issues. If you are thf or either Rng, then sub dnc and kill them that way. Just keep Drain Samba up, and self heal. Stick with it, and you will cap out in a while.

Or, try finding a skill up party to do it with. Get a friend that can heal, and just sit there and whack away at the mobs.

This is the dancer forum, so they're talking specifically about dancer main. I would wait until your mid 60's to go there. The crabs have high defense and it takes a while to get them down. Plus like you said, they hit HARD @ 61. Have you tried soloing Lesser Colibri in Wajaom Woodlands?

Haven't tried the birds yet, maybe I'll give it a shot.

I assumed robber crabs might have been a touch too high level.

Don't forget to add evasion gear to help avoid those hard hits. For example evasion earrings vs att earrings with eva down. I don't know what a precision headband's stats are but maybe wear a Emporer/Empress headband. I don't have a lot of eva gear but I have read that Dnc soloers excel when they maximize their evasion.

Crabs aren't chosen for skill-ups because they are pushovers. Crabs are chosen because they last longer and you don't have to fish one up as often. And the people who go there are usually level 75 already.

As others have said, go as a party, there should be others in your LS who need the skill-ups. Or go in an xp party (if they'll take a DNC that is) where you're not the sync target.

Pretty soon you'll be almost unstoppable as dnc/nin...I have some friends with that combo for solo'n some tough stuff, it's pretty sweet. Guess I'm just saying all the hard work will pay off {luck}

Because... my brain was thinking backwards. You should ONLY be the sync target. Or at most a level or two above.

Party life is hard for a Dancer for some reason. I very rarely get invites and when I do, it's always syncing down to the 40s or some such.

Yeah, I have 15 level 75's, If I see a Dnc searching within 5 levels of myself, I get them. It's to much support/dmg/healing in one out of 6 slots not to pass up. shame it hasn't caught on yet with the endgamers.

Another thought - look in the zone for people working on Trial of the Magian daggers and see if they'll team up. Or, if you can get to Vunkerl Inlet, there's hardly a crab popping white nowadays for the same reason. Yes, they'll want to mow through crabs fast, but hitting a mob is hitting a mob. And you won't take hate off a 75 ^^

So I went back tonight at 62 and it's so much easier now. Wonders what 1 level can do. Also, Dancing Edge is awesome and I can finally kill things at a decent speed.
