Agreed, though chakram do sound kind of cool. They are rather dancer-ish, almost like gypsies with tambourines.

I would expect more of a baton type dance move (like a staff of sorts) to be added before adding something that would only be joked about. Too many Striper jokes about dancer already, we don't need to add dominatrix jokes in with the mix.
Ahhhhh I was so looking forward to the jokes and fan art with the whips ^..^
Not sure if their graphics engine could handle it, but it would definatly have a cool look if it's workable. If they added it I wonder if it would be exclusive or open to some other jobs. Just think a skillchain animation starting as the whip is being employed for screenshots.

On the other hand it would force me to level up another weapon, but I still think the humor value would be worth it. /cheer

On another unrelated note, did anyone else thing of Bill Murray as the Whipmaster from SNL oh so long ago?

          Re: Introduction of the Whip?

I for one hope they don't ,introduce a whip. the thought of sad players thinking themselves as dominatrixes and bondage masters.

Picture the thought of some sad individual playing taru trying to cyber with all the mithras, now he has a new tool to cause sexural harrasment with.. and not forgetting all teh vids that would be made. anyone remember the humping elvan?

Would be good if they could use a deadly instrument, anyone remember the accordian with spikes the Klingon restaurant owner had in DS9, harmless to play but deadly when used as a flail weapon.

errr instruments would kinda rob the BRD spotlight. Dance is expressed from the body, not an object that produces sound, that's he BRD's job.

though ribbons might help. anyway I think the Dagger in the latest WotG artwork seems to imply they are getting most inspiration from the FFT Dancers, which were portrayed more like assassins. the trailer hint at that too.

Pfft, I don't need a whip to cause mass sexual harrasment!

                  Re: Introduction of the Whip?

Adding a whip-style weapon to this game would absolutely ROCK. And Dancer wouldn't be the only job that could make good use of it (can anyone say BST or COR?!)

How about a chakram-style weapon that doubles as a tambourine? Or maybe some throwing maracas?

And of course, we can always use more cowbell.

                    Re: Introduction of the Whip?

I like the idea of the whip. Like many weapons I imagine the whip would have a heavy counterpart for other job classes like the wand vs the hammer. Flails could also fall into the whip catagory. Flails rocked with ninjas in fft so why not.

I dont remember very well, I think Quistis from ff8 had a whip.

                      Re: Introduction of the Whip?

yes Quistis was the only main character in FF that solely specialized with a whip. Though I think in FF6 or the earlier ones, there was a whip class weapon some can equip. well ya FF1 definitely had flails/nunchucks.

Why? It would be simple. It's just another animation. This isn't an action game.

SE makes a few whip cracking animations, an animation for holding it, an animation for a few emotes and jump, and that's it. there's nothing 'too complex' about it, although the animators might dislike it. It would be more WORK than other weapons, but it wouldn't cause any problems for the client.

                          Re: Introduction of the Whip?

they can animate a slinky water dragon, they can animate a whip.

PSU AOI has whips and those don't have any complicated animations.

and Quistis in FF8 only had a single whip attack animation, think of what they can do in FF11. oh ya I can just imagine the Whip weapon skills.

ok, let me restate it. it's possible but I doubt they would want to put the work into it.

all of the weapons in use so far are static and solid. a whip is fluid. I'm sure it's possible to program but I don't see SE undertaking the work to do so. they've continuously shown their reluctance to upgrade or modify things in the game.

well there's upgrade and modify. then there's adding new stuff, which WotG will offer. I'm not counting on whip, but it seems more possible than chakrams as a main.

If they added a whip, mithra would be doomed to Catwoman/Dominatrix connotations forever. Well, in some cases they already are /shrug

And I'd also demand that I get to use it like Indiana Jones. Its so damn annoying to have to walk around every obstacle, I want to latch onto a tree branch and swing across chasms and stuff >.>
