Probably the mention of other types of dance that emerged are allusions to different animation sets to be used for dancers of different genders and races. Can you imagine a galka swinging his arms and jumping around like the hume in the trailer? Bleh. He'd look like a drunken gorilla.

At least if they use the same outfit Galka dancers would explain why enemies fear them it would be scarier than the .dat image with the Galka in a wedding dress ^..^

I have no problems with Dancer being female only.
The only thing to do after that is to make another expansion job Male only.
Then the 3rd job can be unisex.
so 1 female only, 1 male only, and 1 unisex job.
this way, the only way for you to play dancer is to make another character. Which = an extra $1 for SE. I see it as a great Marketing ploy.
Heck, if the girls wanted to play that 1 male only job they'd have to make 1 male character to play. Which would be another $1 for them.

No, no it is not a marketing ploy of any kind because it would piss off a large portion of the current fanbase. Part of this game's biggest features is the ability to do everything with a single character, make a gender specific class would throw that right into the trash.

It's true that SE was uncharacteristically gender-specific when describing the history and origins of the dancer job, but if you notice in the last two paragraphs where they're describing the evolution of dance into the profession that it is today they go back to using gender-neutral terms.

I noticed that too. The story told of the origins of Dancers and how they rose to prominence. Towards the end of the story, they stopped being rare and mysterious members of an ancient tribe and actual joined the front lines of battle as active troops. So Hume women may have created the art, but it was swiftly spread through all races and genders. As far as I've seen, they only characters they've shown in Dancer AF were female Humes. And since the entire story focused around Bastok, does that mean that only Female Humes will be able to play it?

The answer to that is no btw.

You also have to remember, this class has a lot of German to it. The heavy amount of gender related pronouns could be a nod to that.

The only thing that would frighten me is a Galka Dancer. As to the rest, I don't care. Male, female. But seeing a Galka dance would give me nightmares. ;_;

I doubt they'll make it a gender specific job, though. It did seem like they were shifting more towards uni-gender pronouns at the end, instead of the earlier heavy fixation on 'maiden' and the like.

Though I do think it would have been neat to do it more FFT like with male bards and female dancers. But before someone else starts assuming I mean something offensively, let me say that I don't. XD
