  • Hopefully Dancer/Warrior is acceptable in parties up to level 60

I really don't wanna level a mage class or DD class to sub for my main Dancer class. I rather sub War if I can't sub Pld.

    or hmmm. maybe Dancer/Monk.

    Don't count on it.

Based on the description though, I wonder if /BRD or /BLM will work.

Its always best to have all necessary and preferred subjobs available for any job you take up. You can play it /war if you so desire, but you're very likely to make it more difficult on yourself and your party if you do.

Keep in mind, we know next to nothing about this job at this point. Though it is possible that war would be an acceptable subjob, its not likely considering the impression of the type of job it appears to be. From the small description we've seen, it looks like its going to be some kind of support job. As it stands now, most support jobs do not routinely use /war in party situations.
Even if /war does end up being a usable subjob, its not likely to be the only one. You should really try and have all relevant subjobs leveled and ready to go.

Re: Hopefully Dancer/Warrior is acceptable in parties up to level 60

I see a few possibilities for Dancer and I'm working on each of them. I've already got WHM, NIN and WAR subs done on Kitten, so I've gone on to levelling subjobs that (1) benefit my COR and BLU anyway and (2) probably could suit Dancer.

Those subs are /THF, /RDM and /BLM. /BLU I'm about to move on finishing since its already 30. I'm still of the opinion (being BRD and COR at 75) that /BRD is a subjob for people who are hard-up for manaburn PTs (and in the case of RDM, I can't comprehend why you'd want to be in one), so that one's not high on my list.

So far I'm left with the impression that this dancer will fall somewhere between the FFV and FFVI definitions. I don't think it will be Mog's "Geodancer" but based on the descriptions given, it will have magic that rivals the highest orders of "sorcerous cants" and "weave" their magic on themselves and their enemies. So they might be dropping the Geomancy element and just skewing it to black magic instead.

So I'd think any job that would grant Magic Attack Bonus could be a solid pick if the job doesn't get it as a native trait. /BLU and /RDM would offer a comprable MAB and party support options, while /BLM would offer the strongest MAB, Elemental Seal and no real support functions.

But they implied that these magicks take place between the Dancer and the enemy. Dancer from FFV and FFX-2's "Songstress" had an ability called Charm or Tantalize, which put the monster into a confused state. It could be possible this job requires the mob's attention to do some of its work and a "Tantalize" ability could aid that (and always be disturbing when a male character uses it ).

I think at this point, without full information, I'd level subjobs that not only satisfy your existing jobs' needs, but could potentially be useful to this one. What I wouldn't do is foolishly assume this is another BRD class because Dancer has always been the direct polar opposite of BRD in Final Fantasy games. Before SE gave RDM the enfeebling crown in FFXI, Dancer wore it proudly.

If anything, I'd think Dancer is going to be to Red Mage what Corsair was to Bard - they'll share some ground, but also be rather different. I expect Dancer to be a job with enfeebles RDM doesn't have and probably also a job that's stronger in nuking than RDM is.

ya well I think Dancer is best treated as something unique, not a mage class.

cause in FFT and stuff Dances never depended on a magic pool, and it would be cooler that way, less downtime on top of that too. they could just wedge in a recast time limit and that would balance things out.

but ya hopefully they do a good job giving the job useful Traits, Abilities and Dances (which might be buyable like spells, but don't require MP).

oh ya and hopefully each ability/spell has plenty of graceful and unique dance animations for each one.

I hope it makes a good sub job, so I can yell SHAKE IT more often.
