And if so, wouldn't that mean that if they survive King Behemoth's Meteo, that they'll have Meteo too? Or better yet, Hurricane Wing by Nidhogg/Fafnir? BLU just doesn't sound interesting, but also sounds very powerful at this point. But all of these are still pure speculation. Until we see the job (and even how to obtain the job), all we can do is wait.

I'm sure the Meteo will have a heafty MP cost and long cooldown timer

my question for Blue Mage, when(if before release) anyone is able to find out, would it be like smn Blood Pact, where if you use carby's BP, you cant use any others, even fenrir till the timer's up, or like regular spell timers.

there's also something else people seem to tend to forget. you XP off of VT - IT++, some abilities would have a higher chance of being resisted. Just b/c it can kill YOU with 1 hit, a EP-- or a TW, doesnt mean you can kill an IT++ that has +2x HP than a mnk EM(to the IT++ mob) w/ HP+ gear, higher Mdef than a blm EM w/ INT, Mdef gear, higher def than a pld using all abilities and def+ gear... when you (or pt's blm) does 2k hp damage against a mob and it only goes down 1/8 or less, who (player) in the game has +5k hps? +16k?
why do people forget how badly outclassed the players are? if a player could play a 75mob and you did throat jab and did 2k damage (which would 1 sot any player, maybe even a 75 gal mnk), with how many more hps the other would have, it'd be so little that they would laugh at you.

I saw a Gob Alchemist cast cure V for 600hp and it barely even budged the hp bar, maybe gave it 5% hps back (12k hp) you really think a 2k throat jab (maybe highly resistable) is over powered, especially if it has a +1 min cool down timer? your blm can cycle between freeze, quake, burst, etc doing 2k each (getting tons of hate too) why is it over powered if a Blue Mage can do that differently and end up equally dead if they try?

Throat jab 1 shots a EP-- w/ less than 2k hps (you) and yet it's assumed it would 1 shot a 16k hp IT++ mob? oO

since through out Blue Mage history, you have to be hit AND survive the encounter to get it. this means the Blue Mage would Have to get throat jabbed and Raised before the Tonnebury is killed by the party w/o calling for help. they (SE) might even make it a requirement that a Blue Mage won't get any abilities if weakness is active.

in this example your pt would have to give it enough tps for throat jab, the Blue Mage must have the hate, get jabbed, raised, wait for weakness to wear (5 min) while party is fighting it and getting throat jabbed themselves (since it just happens). eventually you'll have people shouting for {Skill}{Up}/{Throat Jab} {party} {Can I have it?} {please} because during XP, a Blue Mage trying for throat jab will probably end up kicked or left for dead when people get pissed at suicidal Blue Mages.

    Over powered? I think not

Actually, in FF5 you don't need to survive the attack to learn it. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to learn "LVL 5 Death" or "Roulette". Oh, all right, you can survive those with the Bone Mail, but you don't need to. I know I learned the former at level 15 in the Library long before Bone Mail is available, because you do need to get hit by it and wouldn't at level 14 or 16.

Anyway, I hope spells are learned Khimari style. Or Quistis style, as long as the items are EX.

I am more interested in the 3 letters initial for Blue Mage... all mages should end with M, look at WHM, BLM, and RDM... what would blue mage's be?

Well you'll notice that the 3 letter abbreviations never have vowels so the ones people have thrown arround of BLU and BUM are likely to not be used. The only other option looks to be BMG.

Do remember not all mage types end with M either, Summoner is SMN so Blue Mage could easily go as BMG. If they did use vowels though then for Bard would they of used BAR or BAD then

Aww.. BUM would be pretty funny though.

            "I am a BUM"

And there are vowels in 3 letter abbreviations: WAR, SAM, NIN

Hmm, don't know why those 3 slipped my mind. Well then guess BUM and BMG are possibles.

Yeah, you didnt always have to survive the attack to learn it. But compared to how many abilities were used by mobs to how many you could learn...very big difference. What does a EP gob bomb on a higher lvl do anyway? 30dmg? 40dmg? Like Enialas posted, the ja's look a lot cooler b/c A. We're EP to them and I do a helluva lot more dmg on EP's than IT's and B. mobs have a crapload more hp than us. (Why few jobs at hi lvls can efficiently kill EP's)
Honestly, I sincerely doubt that the most useful ja's that BUM/BMG (do you have to put the trademark after that one seeing hows its a music company?) will be able to use will even be attack ja's. But rather either buffs or debuffs. (Buffs would be interesting, b/c in past FF's you had to either control the mob or confuse them and hope they cast the buff on you.) May see duo's of blue mages and BST's or BST/BUM (BMG) or vice versa using pets aoe buffs on themselves to learn the spells.

well in FFV you might not have had to survive the battle, but in my experience w/ VII, iirc if you didnt raise the person before combat ended, they didnt get the ability

for the kimari way.... that's just too easy. lancet everything in the zone to get all abilities and then zone out? the true blue mage path, is with great risk (risk everything lol) comes great power(rewards). plus his abilities are TP dependant and the Blue Mage in FFXI will be MP dependant. If a Blue Mage doesnt have to risk death to get any powers, then it'd be a crying shame. and for the record, Yes, I want to try Blue Mage.

maybe for an ability that kills you, you have to get raised b/c if you HP you loose the memory of it (explains xp loss anyways) and getting raised leaves you to reflect on how/why you died (xp return)

I heard Dancer and Geomancer were also coming. I havnt found anything official on it tho. does anyone know anything about those rumors. I think blu will prolly mess up the game balance alot starting out. either too weak or too good. usually SE makes things too good to start out with like DRG used to be to good ^^.

Chocobo Knight (Judge, perhaps? 0_o) would be cool, but how about making it so that you could attack from chocobo-back, with any job?
