I'll be needing to learn Frenetic Rip pretty soon, and I was toying with the idea of using the Imps in Campaign to learn it from, since they're so plentiful and easy and all that.
So for shits and giggles, which is the primary reason I do so much in this game, I went out to see how well I could fight one just as a lone 58 Blu/Nin, no foods, buffs, etc, and with no tags on.
Well not too well it turns out, but not terribly bad either. If I didn't have to worry about amnesia, Blu/Dnc with cocoon or some defense food would work just fine against them at this level IMO. But the interesting thing was when I disengaged and then slept the Imp, it lost it's battle stance and stopped attacking me right before Sheep Song hit it, and regained it's battle stance once Sheep Song had hit. It didn't attack me once it woke up either, nor did it regen it's health while slept.
I followed it around for a little bit, like three minutes. It did not regain any of it's lost health, and it seemed like I had lost all enmity from it. I engaged it again to test out the enmity loss thing again. This time I turned my back on the Imp while still engaged, and Sheep Song was resisted. The Imp kept attacking me, and I put away my weapons. Maybe about 10-15 seconds after that, the Imp stopped attacking me and went off on his merry way.
So I think it is safe to say that if you stop attacking them, and maybe you have to disengage, the mobs will lose interest in you.
Soooo, and without putting terribly much thought into how I'd do this. I'm thinking Blu/Thf, SA it until you break the horn, get it's health low and go in for the kill at that point after hopefully having seen Frenetic Rip a few times. Have a couple of sleep spells set so that you can keep it away from other imps who may want to try to heal it. Head Butt would probably be good to have set.
