Re: Trouble with Self skill chain

Sorry if it was unclear; that's why I said "not when you start casting" right after "the moment the spell casts." But yes, I meant the same thing you do. Equips need to be on when you actually cast the spell, when the sound goes from waaaaah to ssshhhhoooom* and your character breaks out hand motion #2, all that jazz.

Re: Trouble with Self skill chain

I've not been successful yet at getting Shark Bite to skillchain off of my Chainspell. I've tried several slight variations on my timing. I'd really like to get the combo down cuz I'm trying to break the Dagger of Trials and apparently that combo breaks it the quickest.

... I can get Dancing Edge to Skillchain very consistently. It works best when I hit my WS macro right when the animation for Chainspell shows you striking the <t>.

On Shark Bite I'm manually using the individual macros~

      /ja "Chainspell" <t>

      ... then

      /ja "Shark Bite" <t>

I've tried being early ... I've tried being late. Maybe I don't recognize the effect but I don't see any extra damage being done. Can anyone describe the effect I should see when this is done correctly? ... or maybe someone happens to have a macro that works consistently for them?

Re: Trouble with Self skill chain

When you say "Chainspell" do you maybe mean "Wild Flourish"?

Assuming that's the case, according to the wiki page on Wild Flourish, Shark Bite doesn't form a skillchain with it:
        Dagger Skillchains:
Wild Flourish + Wasp Sting = Scission
Wild Flourish + Gust Slash = Detonation
Wild Flourish + Shadowstitch = Fragmentation
Wild Flourish + Viper Bite = Scission
Wild Flourish + Cyclone = Detonation
Wild Flourish + Energy Steal = None
Wild Flourish + Energy Drain = None
Wild Flourish + Dancing Edge = Scission
Wild Flourish + Shark Bite = None
Wild Flourish + Evisceration = Transfixion
Wild Flourish + Mandalic Stab = None
Wild Flourish + Mordant Rime = None
Wild Flourish + Pyrrhic Kleos = Scission
Wild Flourish + Mercy Stroke = None

Someone correct me if I am wrong, you can only skillchain with weaponskills, certain dances and blue magic physical magic spells.

Only three jobs i know of can skillchain with themselves. SAM can do it when they two hour, Blue mages can do it when they use chain affinity with a physical type blue mage spell, and Dancers with Flourish + weapon skill.

If you mean you want to Magic Burst off the previous skillchain then the wait time is around 4-5 seconds. Which should be enough time to use Chainspell and the magic spell tha will magic burst from the previous skillchain.

It might be a accidentaly mistake but your bottom macro is incorrect. It should be /ws "Shark Bite" <t>.

On another note, couldnt RDM multi burst using Chainspell and Tier 3 magic? I remember I could Magic burst twice (BLM/RDM) on one skillchain using one Tier 4 and one Tier 1 if I time the first nuke.

Re: Trouble with Self skill chain

Sorry was at work and people kept distracting my attention. And yeah ... lotsa mistakes in that first post..

            yes.. I totally meant

            /ja "Wild Flourish" <t>

/ws "Shark Bite" <t> is what I meant.

... I found this on wiki and maybe it has totally confused me.

"Only Thieves and Dancers will be able to close a level 3 skillchain via Shark Bite; Bards will need Mordant Rime unlocked in order to close Level 3 skillchains."

Cloak and Dagger - FFXIclopedia - a Wikia Gaming wiki

I'm maybe confused by what they mean exactly by "close a level 3 skillchain"

Do they mean long multi person chains and not a single dancer's Wild Flourish + "Shark Bite"

Re: Trouble with Self skill chain

Closing a skillchain means being the ending weaponskill for that chain.

You can use Shark Bite to close a level 3 skillchain if you have a partner with an appropriate opening weaponskill. Wild Flourish only works with certain weaponskills, and only creates certain chains for those, as posted in the list above. According to that list from wiki, the best you can do with Wild Flourish is Shadowstitch, since that creates a level 2 (Fragmentation).
