  • Uragnites piss me off

I'm 38 blu now and have been pretty proud of the fact that I've soloed all my spells so far in advance of being able to use them. At 36 I had every spell ready up to level 42 except for Venom Shell, which I decided to wait on Jet Stream to get since it's a high damage bird spell that should be good for rushing damage against the aquan uragnites.

Well I was sortof right. Jet Stream does do a lot of damage to them. But in spite of being able to hammer out 400-500 damage on these pricks every 23 seconds between Bludgeon and Jet Stream, I still cannot kill a freaking EP. They just stay in their shells for 18 of those 23 seconds and regen back probably 300-400 life. I've tried holding back all my spells until they're out and taking full damage, but they retreat too quickly and regen back way more health than one spell can do. I've tried using a Bludgeon to try to get them out of the shell faster, but then I just run out of mp even faster. I've even tried gauging the amount of damage it takes to make them retreat and saving my damage spikes until my melee is close to the damage limit, but it's not consistent and the advantage is so slight. I may as well try to solo aspid on rdm. It's so incredibly frustrating.

Well, did you try the ones that are occasionally on the boats? I didn't use those, and I'm not 100% sure you can learn from them, but I think they are fairly weak?

Either way, there are always times in an MMORPG when we need at least a "little" bit of help...So don't be too ashamed if you have to do so! If we were on the same server, I'd give you a hand.

(Oh, and if you solo Body Slam, PLEASE put it on YouTube. I'd love to see a BLU solo that...)

I tried one on the boat that was a little weaker than the ones on the island, but it was my first time fighting them so my tactics sucked and I wasn't able to kill it. The other two I saw were both T to me. Wiki lists them as 30-37 but they must at least go to 39. 32-35 for the isle ones feels about right though.

I'm sure Body Slam is impossible, which I think is pretty punk. The only non-NMs that use it are level 78 at least. Even if I could get the mob to use it I probably wouldn't survive the move itself, much less kill the thing afterward. If Shadow Dragon used it that'd be one thing. Maayyyybe it would be possible in a 60-cap Evade and Escape but I think the odds of getting two other people to go in on that are pretty slim.

Anyway, these guys can die in a raging inferno that darkens the sky. I'm outta here. Wasted my whole evening trying to divine some strategy to kill a damn EP. I'll be back in 3 levels with my NPC and a sack of juice and just brute force the bastards.

        Re: Uragnites piss me off

It has been a long while, but I dont think they get high resistance to magic when they are in there shells. (Please someone correct me if I am wrong) I remember using Poison Breath against them when they were in there shells, my NPC as fierce attacker, and melee strikes to keep them even until they come out of there shells. I would only use Jet Stream when they came out of there shells. I would cast Poison breath between melee hits while they were in their shells. I would weapon chain with my NPC and MB if they resulting MB was Reverbration (sp?).

I do remember dying a few times but I was 1/4 on the spell.

I'm pretty sure they do get magical resistance when they're in their shells, but I'll see what I can learn from emulating your strategy next time I'm out there. Poison Breath is one of my best spells when I'm at full hp and they do barely hurt me since they're in their @%$@! shell so much.

Pack some ethers (Hi-Ether Tanks arent too expensive), Yagudo drinks, and maybe a sub that allows you to put multiple DOTs on the mob? Like BLM or SCH. That will also give you some more MP.

            Dunno if that would help.

              Re: Uragnites piss me off

Uragnites really suck. I helped a friend of mine get that spell as a WHM. It was tough on both of us. My advise would be to find a BST of a decent level, and let his pet's do all the work. You won't be taking melee dmg, and if it's BST/WHM, you're double covered.

I might mention that it took us a while to get him that spell. I hope your luck is better than ours was.

I remember when I was trying to get this one. On Purgonorgo, I happened upon this DRG that also had a 75BLU and offered to help, so I took him up on the offer, and I got it. Haven't been back there since.

i don't remember what level i learned Venom Shell at, but it was definitely before i needed it. I think the thing that helped me the most was using as many DoTs as i could on them to help minimize the amount of life they healed while rolled up in thier shell. i'm at work so i'm going by memory, but the only DoTs i can think of at low level are poison breath and queasyshroom. i don't think they stack, but using whichever one has a higher HP/tick might be what you need.

                    Re: Uragnites piss me off

Pretty sure queasyshroom is the stronger DoT.

Of course, you might just want to wait another 2-3 levels. Being far in advance of the level where you can cast the spell is cool, but not essential - I think I didn't get Claw Cyclone until 19, because tigers are just too dangerous to fool around with any lower level than you need to.

Are you using your npc for extra damage that doesn't cost you mp? I found it helpful on some of the spells that had to come from EM-T enemies (like claw cyclone and sound blast). Since you're over 30, you can solo the tactics pearl quest in Promyvion and summon npc up to 5 times in a row, which should be plenty considering pretty much every single uragnite is going to use it.
