  • Blue mage questions

Hey, i am hopefully getting the expansion to get blue mage soon, and i have had a look at the guides. I notice that alot of people use /nin as the sub of choice, but i have also heard people just sticking to war as the sub of choice.

I would like to know your opinions on both the subs, and what advantages are there exactly to both of them.

Im not going to go with a mage sub as i dont have many mage jobs so i thought i would stick to the aggresive type of blue mage. I am interested in blue as it is a melee class aswell.

At mo im a Galka monk level 48. Any advice for a newbie blue mage would be nice

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Blue mage questions

/WAR: For tanking, and boost to sword damage via Berserk. Does nothing for the Blue Magic spells, however. BLU tanking gets a bit iffy around Lv.35+, IMO.
/NIN: For self preservation, and Dual Wield boost to sword DoT and stats on the sub-weapon.
/THF: For very nice boost to some Blue Magic spells using Sneak Attack, with is once a minute.
/WHM: Makes BLU a pretty good healer.

      Re: Blue mage questions

If you are going to learn Blue Magic Spell from solo or small parties, blu/whm or blu/nin is very useful. For solo (in general) you gain the most from /whm or /nin.

For DD-based BLU, blu/thf is very good. When you use a significant amount of MP for damage (especially spells from mid to high levels), you want the spell land on the mob at its highest potential. Sneak Attack ensures the MP is well spend for physical attack magic. You have the option to separate [Sneak Attack + physical attack spell] and [Chain Affinity + TP + physical attack spell (TP related)], and later better Sword WS; Or combine those resource and Self-Skillchain.

/SCH is a good option if you want to play solely as healer

OP wants to be an attacker.

Still, why do you say /SCH would be good for healer BLU? I don't think it'd cut MP cost of Blue Magic. (Right?) In that case, /WHM would make much more sense, since BLU already has more efficient direct cure spells than WHM and probably Scholar.

The only place I see /SCH working out better than /WHM for BLU is with Regen II (at BLU74/SCH37). Otherwise, Protectra, Shellra, bar/ra spells, -na spells, and earlier access to Raise all point to /WHM as the better support job for a healer.

            Re: Blue mage questions

/SCH would get you B-ranked Healing Skill, which is a lot more than WHM's half-capped Healing Magic, and would thus be a big boost to BLU's healing spells.

Lose utility, gain raw healing potency. Very situational, but worth pointing out.

What is the amount of potency boost expected?

I plan to level SCH for support job soon, but my BLU is only Lv.40, and won't be climbing very fast. (My BLU is in a very slow static party. XD )

I have no clue, but a dude on Allakhazam said it was pretty good.

Chocotaku says approx. 25% boost (compared to /NIN?)

Would be nice to get a comparison of curing potency between /SCH and /WHM.

B- healing skill at 75 vs A- healing skill at 37 definitely a clear cut win for the prior one, no?
                      Thanks,

                        Re: Blue mage questions

If Scholar does give a better rating at 75 than White Mage does at 37, then yes, /SCH would win in the pure healing power department, since healing Blue Magic is affected by any Healing Magic Skill present. This can be seen by the variance in various blue cures by equipping and unequipping +# Healing Magic Skill equipment.

But as Armando said, you give up utility in the status cure department for raw healing power.
