Is there something i need to do or when the mod does foot kick after it does damage shoudl it say "You learned Foot Kick!!" checked the chat logs...nothin...nothin in my magic list....no spells learned

is there a trick to learning spells?? Any BLUs out there lend me some tips

Other than blind luck at the early levels, not much can be done. Once you *do* get at least *a* spell, whatever it is, take every opportunity to spam it as much as possible. Get your Blue Magic Skill up, as that seems to help determine how quickly (and even if) you can learn a spell.

Other than that, just keep your hopes up. Good Luck.

Pollen is especially nice as a first spell. Healing obviously, but you can spam it without having to fight something...

        Re: Trouble learning spells

There's no magic or ritual you can perform to help you learn spells faster. The odds of you learning a spell are random. At best, you can learn how mob TP works so you can manipulate the mob better. When the mob has more than 20% HP, it'll only use its TP randomly. Below 20%, it'll ALWAYS use its TP if it has 100 or more. Mobs get your TP gain +3 every time you hit them, 10 TP for each spell you land on them (and 10 for each hit in multi-hit Blue Magic) and TP based on their Delay when they hit you (6.4 for most non-MNK mobs.) Spamming Dia will give the mob 10 TP per each cast as long as Dia lands for more than 0 damage. You can use that to your advantage since Dia doesn't do much damage. When you get to higher levels you can just spam Foot Kick and Power Attack.

Well I got sprout smack randomly last nite. how i found out was i was checking LS chat and my eyes caught the messege "Learned Sprout smack!!" i was like WHAT!! equiped it and had at everything in my path!!! lol

got my blu magic to lvl 15 also i love being a galka Blu all i do is hit * so it locks on and just cast away.

Also another thing...i couldn't find this in any guides here but say for instance I'm lvl 16 in the dunes and i havn't learned power attack or foot kick sand spin etc etc...i can learn their moves if i'm higher then the mobs lvl.... i know i can learn moves from mobs about 10 lvls higher but at a low learn rate...i was just wondering that.

Go back and smack a few enemies without any weapon on, making sure they have less hp than 20% so that it can use it's tp moves on to you. Once they are less than 20% as indicated by Armando, turn around and do not face the mob. let them keep either hitting you, and eat a Boiled Crab to lessen the damage you take, drink some Selbina Milk to regen hp.

Keep this up for a while until you see them use their tp abilities 2x usually, then proceed to kill them. Sometimes 3, but I just didn't have the patience to wait for it.

Check to see if you learned it. That's pretty much all I have for that. Your best bet is to get Pollen 1st, then that way you can cure yourself if you drink Selbina Milk & Pineapple Juice, and eat a Boiled Crab.

                Re: Trouble learning spells

I suggest buying a maple wand to feed mobs TP. It's cheap, it's got low damage, and it's got fairly low delay. You could just go bare fisted, but hand-to-hand is much slower than a wand, and without inherent h2h skill, you may end up whiffing too much as you move on to higher level mobs. At least with a wand, you get the benefit of club skill to help you land hits.

My first BLU spell took a while to learn. Once I got Foot Kick, things seemed to pick up. Then you can start spamming Foot Kick on the next mob you want to learn a spell from, and that will accomplish two things: 1) feed the mob TP quickly, and 2) get you blue magic skill ups.

Sometimes, you'll get a spell on your first try. Other times, it'll take over a dozen times before you actually learn it. It's mostly just luck. You just have to be patient and persistent.

                Edit:

Also another thing...i couldn't find this in any guides here but say for instance I'm lvl 16 in the dunes and i havn't learned power attack or foot kick sand spin etc etc...i can learn their moves if i'm higher then the mobs lvl.... i know i can learn moves from mobs about 10 lvls higher but at a low learn rate...i was just wondering that.
I don't think the relative level between you and the mob affects the rate of learning. I had a rough time learning Metallic Body from Crabs, something like 20 tries before I finally learned it. And most of that was against DC crabs.

One more very important note on your ability to learn spells: whether or not you can learn a spell has nothing to do with the level of the mob you are fighting, and it is only indirectly related to your own level. It is dependant on 1) the level of the spell itself, and 2) your blue magic skill level. Even if your job level is within 10 levels of the spell you are trying to learn, you may still not be able to learn it if your blue magic skill is not capped. See wiki's page on Blue Mage for full details.

A bit of a necro, but I have a few things to say that might help any future Blu's.

I was extremely lucky with Pollen. I learned Pollen on the first shot. Might have been the first mob I killed too. ^.^ IMO, Pollen is the first Blu spell you should try to learn. It's the one thing you can spam early on that won't result in you killing something too quickly, which is bad because you should do a lot of "spell farming" before you get into a party. (I learned every spell up to lvl 12 before I got into a party in the Dunes.)

Also, when farming spells, always use /Whm. At least when fighting Easy Prey or lower. I tried farming Sprout Smack with /War and it just didn't work. I always killed them too quickly, even without a weapon equiped. Your unarmed attacks with /Whm are very weak. Plus it gives you access to Dia, and some helpful spells like Poisona. I like to hit the mob with my sword until it gets to around 20% HP and then put it away, followed by weak punches.

Another little trick I like to do with Easy Prey mobs is fighting two or three of them at once and alternating attacks. You may see a mob use their TP move two or three times before you finally get around to finishing them off.

Oh, and don't try to learn Head Butt from mandies. Go for Quadav. >_>

Learned spells at early levels duoing with my sister; since she was on BLU/WHM (mostly for poisona), I went as BLU/BRD.

Paeon is really nice on low EPs, since it heals most of the damage you'd take with your back turned to the critters...

I can tell you from experience that getting Pollen was a nightmare @_ @

                      Damn bees > . <

But yeah, the best way to do it is to beat them down to about 20% then either turn your back and let them hit you, or hit them with a wand to feed them tp. With any luck they'll use the right attack and you'll learn it. /WHM really helps for this.

                        Not for everyone; I got mine on first try, and I think my sister got it on the second or the third attempt. Cocoon and Feather Storm gave me much, much, MUCH more trouble. x_x;

(Well, technically, I got mine on the second bee; accidentally killed the first one.)

                          Re: Trouble learning spells

I've learned maybe four spells on my first try. Cocoon was one of them. ^.^

Head Butt took the longest, but that's only because I spent the first couple hours trying to learn it from mandies. But with Quadav, maybe second or third try.

Well, that's because you can't learn HB from mandies. Quadav onry.
