BLU/NIN is a pretty common combo. If you read a few of the other threads here in the BLU forum you'll find that it's one of the more popular ones.

BLU/NIN is an excellant combination now. It might not be though in the near future.

The shadows can help you take more damage while trying to learn spells. Plus you get to dual-wield, which helps build TP. Also... dual-wielding is just really cool looking.

I also think Red Mage, Thief, and Warrior all make pretty good sub jobs. Since the job is pretty new I don't think there is a set "best sub job" yet.

Most people dislike the BLU/NIN combination because BLU/THF pulls out more damage in spikes, and BLU/WHM has nice MP to use spells more often.

I like BLU/NIN myself because it has good DoT, and allows to hold some stats in the off hand. The shadows also help to keep you alive if your tank is subpar, however it does contribute to the Utsusemi dependency of the current FFXI world.

if you do /sea all blu on bismarck server at least...most of the blu are /nin but recently other subs are starting to pop out such as /blm and /rdm, I myself is sub /war and I am loving cocoon and defender stacks which gives a very nice defence if you have to backup tank.

But /nin seems to be viable combo.

I'm one of those people against /NIN, so I sub RDM instead. It's actually not a bad sub, it gives me good MP, balanced stats(All of my stats are the same, I think they're all 28 as a 28BLU). Later on, I get Fast Cast, and Dispel. I hate it though, because random people /tell me "You should sub Ninja". I like being unique, so sub whatever you think is best.

Anyone who does blu/nin at ALL should be shot and killed on spot. blu/thf is the best and /nin has no DoT properrties at all. as a 61blu/thf i got told that i outdamage BLU's at lvl 72+... if taht isnt saying something then...

/NIN does NOT help you gain TP any faster. At L50 you gain DW2 from /NIN and it lets you attack 15% faster than with a single weapon, however, it also drops your TP gain by roughly 15% depending on the delay of your weapons.

/WAR offers a better TP gain than /NIN past L50 thanks to Double Attack, it also gives you access to Berserk and higher base STR than /NIN, and as we know, STR is what determines damage for BLU physical spells.

/THF on the other hand gives you superb spike damage. SA+CA+Death Scissors deals roughly 1k damage and of course ignores def since only STR matters.

I believe the BLU/NIN thing is a product of sheep mentality. It doesn't really offer anything else than shadows, but somehow people seem to assume /NIN is always best if you're meleeing something.

That pretty much sums it up for most people.

For a Party I like to sub thf for sata, but I mostly solo my blumage to this point and I like going /nin for that - its a very flexible job...so be flexible with it.

I wouldn't have been able to solo most of 20-34 without /Nin, it's pretty superior in that respect. In parties there's really no use for the shadows unless you're getting Refresh and Ballad and can just spam your spells.

Dual Wield seems to be both a boon and bane.

The thing I don't understand about why people enjoy subbing NIN pre 50, is why no one thinks you don't swing faster when you dual-wield pre-40 Haste, pre-50 DWII. That's the sole reason to not sub NIN if your a DD just for that issue alone. I thought you actually did less DoT pre-50 w/NIN sub, if you're considering your attack speed rate..
