  • Bearer of the mark.

I just wanted to say that i am now officially a Blue Mage! :D

I'm really looking forward to getting to work with the job, and getting to know all the intricacies of what is obviously a very open job. I've been looking around at the posts here, and a couple of beginners questions have arisen..

I noticed in the Blue magic learning guide that there is a level beside each spell, and was wondering if there is a cut off point when learning spells? For instance, is it still possible for me to learn Foot Kick (1) at level 4?

Also, do you have any handy tips for a budding young BLU? I'd really appreciate your replies.

yeah I learned foot kick at lvl 7 or 8 if I remember. The only real problem apparently is learning spells that are so far away from you level wise. Like 9 lvl apart, its generally a pain, learning a spell around your level seems to increase the chances of learning it. (don't quote me on that).

      Congratulations.

No, there's never a point where it is too late for you to learn a spell, but you won't be able to use a spell until you reach the listed level, and if you try to learn it too far before that level you might not be able to. At first you can learn spells that are 10 levels above you, but as you get higher level that acceptable gap starts to shrink.

1: Be very very patient. Learning spells can take a looooooong time.

        2: Have fun.

3: Cap magic early - you can fight EM/T mobs without any difficulty, so you should never have to skill up on a boat. Doing so will annoy the crap out of your fellow passengers and get yourself added to blacklists.

4: Be flexible with what you can do in a party, learn *every* spell and let people know what roles you can fulfil. Blue Mage isn't a one role job.

5: Every now and then - go solo - remind yourself that you're just that awesomecross2004.

6: Get Bludgeon as early as you can.

7: Be very patient. Spells are a pain.

8: Be even more patient. I'm not joking.

9: Be happy when you learn a spell quickly.

10: Don't be in a rush to level up... learning spells is more important.

          Re: Bearer of the mark.

My BLU hasn't learned a single spell yet. :/ But I haven't stood there with my back to the mob very much to let it build TP. It's a time consuming process, from what I've read, but by no means impossible. Just keep at it, and I'm sure you'll get all of your spells eventually.^^

I'm going to give it a try on mobs in LaTheine Konschtat and Tahrongi in the hopes that mobs that live longer might be more likely to build enough TP to use an ability. We'll see.

            Re: Bearer of the mark.

I've hit lvl 10 on my blu, and have found it satisfying learning the magic. It's good to wave goodbye to the mob knowing you've captured its essence now, you are kindred.. and you don't need to beat them up anymore ^^

I've gotten into the habit of fighting multiple mobs, switching while they build tp.. If you run a short distance, they tend to attack at the same time, letting you time pollens between their swings.. and selbina milk, craft some juice I can stand there all day with 3-4 ep/dc hitting on me.

It usually falls apart when a beastmen joins the party though, so I try to engage and kill them as soon as I see them. Its funny having three crabs nipping at your heals while you battle a gob.. as you can guess, I've had a few deaths this way, but with cocoon and metallic body it makes it much easier, and I've had good fun with sandspin.

              Quoted For Truth.

I spent 19 hours on Bludgeon, 20 hours on Healing Breeze, and then I got Chaotic Eye and Sound Blast on the very first Coeurl and Cockatrice I killed, respectively. There seems to be very little rhyme or reason to the way BLU spells are learned beyond the stated restrictions

No, there is no low lvl cutoff. You could be lvl 75 and go back and learn Foot Kick or Power Attack if you haven't picked them up yet. You can learn spells from "Too Weak" mobs. You can learn spells while in the same party as your Power-level friend.

There is an upper level cutoff, for example you can't learn a level 40 spell while you are level 20. To explain more clearly, from levels 1-50 you have a chance to learn spells 10 levels above your current level, as long as you keep your Blue Magic skill capped. From levels 51-75, you can learn spells up to 6 levels above your current level, this is to do a decreased rate of progression for the Blue Magic Skill past level 51.

                  Tips -

                  Keep Blue Magic Skill capped.

On weaker mobs, use a weaker weapon to deal low dmg but still give the mob TP to use it's skills. You can also go without a weapon and H2H the mob to feed it TP.

You have better luck learning spells if you have more TP, so when trying to learn spells, keep your TP at 300 if you can.

The lower the health of a mob, the more often it will use it's TP moves.

A rumored theory is that CHR plays a role in learning spells.

You can learn spells from mobs that check as "Too weak".

You can learn spells even if you have a high level party member.

You won't learn spells if someone "Calls for Help."

                  Good luck

Only problem with this is that once you get high enough the thing won't be able to hit you, and you'll easily slay the crap out of it even with the onion sword.

So go /bst and feed it weak monsters! Even if your BST is level 1, you'll be able to charm after a few tries - and you show me the Too Weak monster that can't hit you that BLU has trouble killing or surviving while Charm cools down.

An LS-mate of mine suggests that you actually have a better chance to learn from Too Weaks, even if the skill itself is levels above you.

heres wut i used and i got all my skills i can learn up to lvl 50... (some still cant use cuz im still to low lvl) but ne ways.... it dont matter wut lvl u are..as long as the mob that uses it is within 10lvls of u (10lvls lower or 10lvls higher) i never learned feather storm til lvl 35 and i learned it in SaurChamp.... also when u start off blu dmg the enemy adown to about 1/3 to 1/4 of its health left and than use lotus katana... since the lotuse katana does almost no dmg it just causes the monster to gain tp so u have a better chance of it usin the skill b4 u kill it .... and be very patient... if u cant be patient than BLU is not for u

enjoy and have a good day
