Just dinged to 54 and tried out Radiant Breath. 116 MP for around 250+ damage vs non-shelled crab, 270+ for MB. Low damage for high MP? You bet. Do I care? No. What determines a good BLU is how much effort you put into the job, rather than what your wallet can buy. That's why I love BLU...it helps emphasize Skill > Money.
Yep ^^ What taskmage said. I would also suspect thatt Evasion down will also stack with Gravity. However, I doubt that acid bolts stack with Frightful Roar
Yeah, I like Radiant Breath ^^ Eyes on Me is also another good one to MB for Gravitation skillchains, it replaces Death Ray. I guess if your desperate you can do Ice Break for those distortion SCs your going to be doing if you want.
metallic body is a bitch to get. i am still trying to get it, i an going on 5h's. foot kick took about 2h to get. hopefully the pace quickens up and oh yeah does a higher blue skill affect the learning speed? can i use a dagger with my blu.^^ 9Blue/4Whm
Pace does quicken up. At 32, I've learned a lot fo the skills to lv40 on the second or third try. Blue Skill vastly helps learning - if your skill is too low, you won't be able ot learn a spell. Spells the mob uses on itself are just a pain in general. And if we have a Dagger skill, it's not worth mentioning. Use a sword - it really is that much of a difference.

To do: Sandy 7-1, ToAU 42, WoG15
BLU has no dagger skill whatsoever. Sword, club, parrying, and evasion are the only combat skills we get (meaning no shield, no staff, no dagger, no other weapons), though we do have pretty decent skill in all of those that we get.
Another question for you, so that i can feed my hunger for BLU information
I realise this will be highly dependent on sub, but what roles have you found yourselves playing in parties? And did you have much trouble fulfilling them?
Personally ive often been sub tank with sub nin, by grabbing hate with dmg alone (this requires you to be in the higher lvl if the exp mobs you're fighting though, it wont work very well if the mobs are IT++).
I've also been sub healer as /whm, ive often been pure DD with /nin because of the lack of hate control, and im looking forward to try /thf when my tanks will be better at keeping hate (ill go more down the road refueling/tp build/melee with sub thf, since ill already get so much hate while doing SA + spell for the skillchain).
You can fill up many different roles in a pt, /rdm would be good too for an all around blu who can deal with many situations if you have no solid debuffer/healer or whatever, you just wont heal as well as /whm or deal as much dmg as /thf or /nin, and you wont be able to sub tank as well as /nin or /war.
Many options, pick your style depending on the party setup =)
Like you said it is highly dependant on sub, but so far I've been mainly DD, though occasionally healer. I usually sub RDM in parties because lately I've been in parties with a RDM/WHM main healing, or in one party in Gustav on flies and gobbies, I was actually sharing healing duties with a BLU/WHM, and it worked out surprisingly very well. Having a NIN tank post-37 makes BLU main healing feasible...not optimal, but it can work.
I like subbing THF when I can, it definitely helps your damage output. Now that I'm past 40 the huge boost I got from the Rapier Belt (+5 Sword skill activated by RDM sub) is starting to dwindle since I have access to the Tilt Belt right now which is about the same accuracy-wise, and soon the Life Belt which is significantly better than the Rapier Belt. I've found myself subbing RDM more often than THF just so I could use that belt, but that's about to change soon.
With the right gear I think BLU/WAR could be a feasible tank in many situations, and as BLU/NIN if you can snag hate you would make an excellent trick partner, though my personal opinion is you don't need /NIN to be a good trick partner if you have Cocoon up, just Digest once the tank has hate and you should be make to full just about.
So up til 43 I'd say mainly DD, healer if necessary. Tank if you gear up for it though I've never tried, and I doubt you'll get an invite so you can tank for a party
If your trying to learn something hard during the lower lvls, I've remeber gathering an entire PT of Blues to tackle on each enemy does wonders (1 blue per mob).
