    Re: A Post-toa Blu Sub

I'm 75whm and I sub blu to most events where I'm not really in absolute need of my /blm and it works really well for making my cures stronger with being able to equip +mnd spells and well over 500 Def with Cocoon ^_^b and it kicks ass in theBrenner and Ballista being able to stun and break shadows with dmg is nice. Though I don't get as much exp than if i'm /blm or obviously /smn.

      Re: A Post-toa Blu Sub

Low level before 24: As with most jobs, anything goes really. There seems to be some preference for /WAR and /WHM before level 22 due to Cure/Poisona and Provoke being so low level, but otherwise not much comes from subbing any other job.

24-29: /NIN seems to be very effective for a lot of people in this range. Utsusemi: Ichi and Coccoon with Pollen make for a pretty solid tank build. Spells like Bludgeon make it pretty easy to hold aggro too, despite the lack of Provoke. /WAR and /WHM still useful for the usual reasons here.

30+: /THF shows up as a viable subjob due to Sneak Attack's effect on some of the stronger physical damage blue magic spells. SA'd physical spells can do some very good damage later on, and it seems to be the sub of choice for offensive-minded blue mages that I've seen.

I'm sure there are other viable subjob combinations that I haven't seen as well. Blue mage is a pretty self-sufficient job all on its own, so using a sub which complements your party's abilities makes a lot of sense.

Generally speaking, the most common subjobs I've seen post-50 for BLU are mostly /WHM (defensive) and /THF (offensive). I'm sure BLU is an excellent solo job with /NIN at 74+ (but have not yet seen any BLU74+/NIN37 in action yet).

I've personaly seen a 75Blu/Nin37 solo its excellent even better it never takes Dmg. Although in ballista its a different story there very good but once you silence them like i have with Tachi: Gekko there done for. I think NIN RDM and Whm are the best

          Sub for /BLU:

/WAR - Good at low levels for tanking with Cocoon. Better defense than PLD through level 30 I believe (whenever PLD gets Eisen they start to take over), and excellent at keeping hate. I personally tanked crabs, pugils, and gobs in the dunes, Furriers in Yuhtungha, and mandies and Smithies in Yhoator pretty effectively. Some people like this for DD but I'm not really a fan.

/WHM - Not a fan unless you're in a BLU-burn party or absolutely NEED someone with /WHM for status cures (for example if you have a RDM/BLM main healing, BLU/WHM could be helpful). Also when we get Magic Fruit I could see this being viable as possibly a main healer, but I'm not sure as I'm not that high yet. Divine Seal does stack with healing skills (Pollen, HB, Magic Fruit), which is helpful.

/BLM - Good in some situations. Elemental Seal works with BLU spells, and Conserve MP and Magic Attack Bonus are helpful. When you can start getting those skills without /BLM sub though, I'm not sure this is worth subbing anymore. I haven't tested this thoroughly.

/RDM - Probably my favorite sub. Access to curing if necessary, several benefical spells for soloing, Fast Cast, and access to Rapier Belt, which is +5 sword skill and instant Accuracy and Attack. Most balanced of any sub stats-wise. Drawbacks: No Job Abilities with /RDM.

/THF - Probably the best DD potential of any sub. SA and TA stack with the vast majority of Physical-based spells, making them not only guaranteed to hit once a minute, but also doing significantly more damage.

/DRK - Haven't tested. Attack Bonus does not seem to help Physical Spells, and Dark Magic will be very weak. STR and INT will both be decent, though I don't think it's worth it. I do believe Souleater stacks with BLU spells, however, which has potential.

/BST - Solo machine to rival RDM/BST if your BST is high level. If not, basically worthless.

/SAM - Haven't tested, but sounds interesting with Store TP and Meditate at 60. Potentially limited by 2 minute timer on Chain Affinity, however.

/NIN - Excellent for solo in many cases, not good for parties as far as I can tell so far. Minimal stat boosts from another sword and very minor TP gain boosts are not very noticable on xp mobs, and seeing as Sword WS's are nothing to get particularly excited about and we can only self-SC every 2 minutes anyways, faster TP gain should not be a big issue. Possibly more effective at higher levels with faster Dual Wield. Likely very good solo at 74+ due to higher Sword Skill and Evasion than RDM.

/DRG - I've heard reports of this being good, with access to Haste gear, etc., but haven't tested. Doubt it would be more beneficial in a party setting than /RDM or /THF.

/SMN - Possibly good at 50 for a couple levels of Auto-Refresh before getting access to it via spells, and Aerial Armor. Not good for much else.

          BLU as sub:

WAR/BLU - Mighty Strikes stacks with physical BLU spells, including Multi-hit spells like Bludgeon. Probably a good tank as well, with +50% defense with Cocoon.

RDM/BLU - Very good solo. Only combination I've tried, and I'm very impressed. Cocoon, Stoneskin, and Phalanx are a great combination. Also gives RDM access to Sword WS's they don't normally get (RLB, Seraph, and Vorpal). Killer traits also nice in some cases for solo. Debuffs seem to stick well even with BLU subbed, could be good for crowd control in places like Dynamis with access to extra sleep spells and higher defense, but I haven't tried this.

THF/BLU - I've heard good things about this, but never seen it in action.

Anything else I haven't heard tested out. Cocoon seems like the biggest reason to use BLU as a sub, for the 50% defense boost.

            Re: A Post-toa Blu Sub

            Has anyone tried blu/pld?

At 75 blu/pld would have defense bonus II, auto-refresh, undead killer, resist sleep, cure III, protect II, shell and some nice melee stat bonuses for blu.

            I think this has potential.

            Any comments?

              Re: A Post-toa Blu Sub

Personally ive subbed nin ever since ive noticed i can get the hate pretty much at anytime. I have always been support tank, ive always used headbutt when nin was out of shadows or when i was, ive always kept very close in hate lvl to the main tank so i can get hate whenever i could spare my shadows.

This has proven invaluable in what it saves in MP for the main healer. Ive never had downtime since lvl 30ish i think, and my damage output is of course very nice since i get all my hate from there.

Ive made whms happy, ive made plds happy, and nins happy lol. Thf's love me since they can SATA on me and the tank whenever, ive always had enough curing power to make subbing whm useless, and like i said i dont need war sub to get hate. The only reason why im not subbing thf is that im not 60 yet, because if id sub thf, id make the whm burn more mp on healing.

So all in all, nin sub makes me feel i can ditch out as much dmg as i can while keeping my mp pool high enough so we can chain forever. The tp gain is also very yummy, i can do much more dmg with chain affinity now that i always have 100ish tp, i also mostly play with a rdm so it helps my mp, and when i cant find one i use yagudo drinks.

Thumbs up for nin sub, when you have plenty of healing power, its a blessing.

P.S. I always make my parties, so i set it up to my own style, which makes me fill in the role of a support tank that does SC's with both melees, and ditches out tons of dmg while not getting hit 90% of the time i have hate.
