Why would we be GLAD that they missed out on several abilities they COULD have learned instead of RUSHING the job to 75? How can we be learning from these fast paced BLU's if they are missing those abilities they could have gotten if they took their time?

      Re: First to 75?

View them as martyrs, laying down days of their lives that they will never get back so that we can enjoy the job to the fullest? I guess we can do that. It's going to take a great deal of open-mindedness.

I view it like this, personally. I want to be the first person to break a stack of 37 cinderblocks with my head. I try it and crack my skull. I'm in a coma for a month. I finally wake up, and have nothing to show for being alive for those 4 weeks, and I can't ever get them back. But the field of brain surgery made some mediocre advances when they finally see up close what the concrete lodged in my brain is capable of.

          Re: First to 75?

Well this thread took a serious turn. Starting out with amazement that these people made it to the top of the mountain, to "what a big loser."

I'm amazed at these people from two different sides. 1 that they did it so quickly. I know there have been people saying they've taken BRD from Lv.1 to Lv.75 in like 3 weeks, but where's the fun in that. But the expansion isn't even a month old, there are a bazillion Blue Magic spells, and as BLU8, sometimes those spells are a real pain to learn. So I'm amazed they pulled it off so fast, and amazed anybody has that much time. I won't lie, I wish I didn't have to sleep so I could play more of all the jobs, but alas I do need to sleep, and I do have friends, and I do have a job, so I do what I can.

I don't know if there's a Lv.75 COR, PUP, or BLU on Lakshmi, I did peep a Lv.64 BLU on last night, and a PUP59 as well. I've yet to party with one past Lv.27. (I actually had 2 BLU, a PUP, and a COR. )

But if they already had a job or two to Lv.75, they may already have plenty of the gear for the job, or plenty of gil to fund the job. It then just becomes an issue of inventory space, and time spent EXPing.

              Re: First to 75?

Generally, those that are already 75 in the new jobs already have a job or two at 75 and have tons of gil and experience that they can use to speed-level the jobs. I'd like to have that kind of gil and experience, true. I can almost guarantee that those 75 BLUs, 75 CORs, and 75 PUPs took NO time out to farm/craft/HELM/etc. It was probably buy gear, dump old gear to another char, level new job while other char sells old gear and ships the profit back, buy new gear, dump old gear to the other char, etc etc.

I admit I'm guilty of sitting with a dumb grin on my face thinking how awesome it would be to play FFXI all day and all night, just like most people are. The difference is that, if I were put in the situation where I'd have such an opportunity, I'd recognize how unsatisfying it was and I'd want to do OTHER things as well.

Sure, you're the first 75 BLU on the server 3 weeks after expansion. Get back to me in a month when you're 1 of 20. And a month after that when you're 1 of 50. What was your name again? Never mind, I don't care anymore.

Only reason it pisses me off that people rush the job to high level is so they could place it in a category ASAP, you know. Whats supposed to be subbed, Eaten, worn.. etc, whats not acceptable... the only reason "I" would rush is so I wouldn't be subjected to the placement

                  Re: First to 75?

hmm a few interesting things to note that I am suprised no one has asked yet.

I am both for, and against rushing a new job for various reasons. I don't like that they will walk up and rub in your face hey hey look what I did I am so much cooler then you weee I got blue mage/corsair/puppeteer to lvl 75. I ownz you all. Mainly because that is really annoying, and I could care less. Sure its impressive, but you don't need to rub it in everyones faces.

I personally congratulated every person that was the first one to get (not to lvl 75 just the first ones to get the job) a corsair/blue mage/puppetter on my server. None of them responded back to me for whatever reason. Maybe they thought they were too good too, maybe they didn't speak english, maybe they were afk, or busy.

The fact that people were crazy enough to do this though benefits the ffxi community greatly. Because they went out and did as much as they possibly could with the jobs, we can quickly find a lot of information that we wouldn't of known about for weeks or even months if they didn't. That is of course IF they share the information. Some will, and some won't. Most will share MOST of their info and keep some of it to themselves to brag about it.

Here is what I am wondering though. Why is it that everyone here believes these people didn't sleep? They slept plenty. I am sure at this point since expansion has been out about a month or so that someone out there has got from level 1 to 75 on their own. But the vast majority of these people are just that PEOPLE. Friends who really know what works, and doesn't work in the game probably some kind of dorm or something who rotate in shifts playing the character. Because I don't remember the guy or girls name who first got lvl 75 bluemage but as far as I can tell they never logged off except when forced to for the mandatory updates.

Sorry if my grammar isn't so great or whatever usually it is but its 4 am right now, and I am having my own difficulty getting the starting blue mage spells ><.

Do you know these people? How do you know that they've missed out on tons of abilities? You don't think they got to 75 with only Bludgeon, do you?

As a matter of fact, no I don't know these people...Do you?
it's HIGHLY doubtful that they got every single ability there is to learn and still managed to get to 75 at the pace they did.

                        Re: First to 75?

Good, bad, meh, what does it matter?

One of the things that saddens me about this game overall, is how many people seem to fixate on judging others - versus trying to enjoy themselves and find something positive to contribute.

Sometimes it feels as if the core community we could have, has been lost somewhere in the obsession about levels and gear. I suppose one could argue that the game has been designed like that, but I'd have to disagree - it's what we, the players, make of it, how we choose to behave and what we want to get out of it.

Some people felt that it was important for them to get to 75 really quickly with these new jobs? Good for them. End of.

I'm not going to judge them by my standards. Especially since I don't know jack about them anyway.

And to add a final thought - I understand how this game can get under your skin and cause strong emotions such as disgust and extreme frustration. So I'm not about to pass some kind of judgement on anyone who has posted on this thread either. Sometimes it's good to rant.

                          Re: First to 75?

If you can level to 75 in a week and not burn out you're inhuman. I subscribed to the "What a big loser!" school of thought because I burn out on FFXI every few months and need to take a break, but these guys squeezed over year's worth of work for most people into just a few weeks for what? For bragging rights? It just seems so extremely counter productive to the point where it's obvious to everybody but the people power leveling themselves. It makes you take a step back and rethink things a bit.

They must really, really enjoy bragging rights.

While I can see the POV of the "OMG no life" group, I personally subscribe to the "who cares" philosophy on leveling like crazy.

Everyone values something different in this game. For some folks it's taking their time and getting to know the game, crafting, chatting with friends, etc. For some folks it's powergaming in a static in a frantic rush to get to 75. Neither are the wrong way to play. I've done both, and they were both good fun at the time.

What these people do has absolutely no effect on me or my gaming experience, so why should I care how fast they get to the endgame?
