Blue Mage - I choose you !

There are a lot of threads about BLU that are 'glass half empty' at the moment, just wanted to start a thread about the more positive aspects of the job.

I was partying over in Dunes last night with 2 other BLU's and god, I have never seen mobs die so quickly! Infact, I have to say that it was the first Dunes group that I felt comfortable in without the obligatory PL that everyone seems to need these days.

Im really excited about the hidden traits aspects as well, and hop that SE release more information on these soon.

I agree... im a 31 BLU at the time of me posting this (dang monsters keep killing me and I loose my lvl)... anyways... The dunes was very comfortable for me playing through. I actually LIKED the experience of the dunes. It was just intense to be doing so much damage and having such a huge impact on the monster at such a low lvl.

My fave moment actually came in Qufim though.. My party was at the little pond/lake fighting worms, and a 2nd worm pops up and starts thrashing my party... I said "Kill this one first." and I switched targets to the 2nd worm.... I started unleashing with Bludgeon and I kicked the things ass!!! It was Tough worm and I ripped through it like an Easy Prey.

I've been soloing Toughs for most of my EXP and abilities, so it works out well. Blue Mages shouldn't be leveling very quickly if they stop every so levels and try to get their abilities, but with this method I can still keep up. While I'm seeking I go somewhere and solo toughs, but there always seems to be a tough that just can't be solo'd.

BLU does seem good early. What remains to be seen is how potent they are as they creep up past the level 50 range. While I don't think there's enough evidence yet to say that a nerf is coming, they are very flexible and powerful - even more so than red mages, who have to date been the jack-of-all-trades job.

Blue mages really have to customize their blue magic abilities based on their current party role, so while a BLU can tank if needed, they can't do other things as well at the same time, and if they're in a healer role, their offensive abilities suffer, so they're not really "good all around" but rather customizable specialists who can fill in any role in a party, but can't fill multiple ones simultaneously.

I'm sure S-E is probably taking a wait-and-see attitude to see what the dynamics of the 3 new jobs (BLU, COR, PUP) end up with in player hands before they start wielding the nerfstick. Nothing I've seen so far is really broken... somewhat too good, perhaps, but not really broken.

Indeed, its a very powerful job, but i think its ok because of the setup part. We can nuke as hell, tank, heal, or debuff, but only one at a time (sometimes 2 but not fully in that case) The job traits that we get also take up spaces in our slots, so its very limited. Keep in mind that blue magic can and WILL be resisted like normal spells.

Our healing abilities are also very limited because of our mp pool, and the lack of healing spells except if we sub whm or spam healing breeze ( curaga for 60 hp ).

Our nuking is limited in the range; We most of the time have to be right next to the mob, which means we get hit by AoE's, and we can get hit by devastating moves (and silence from worms) if we pull hate at some point lol. On a side note, our spamming of spells is also very visual, and sometimes it makes the screen look like a friggin firework feast, so i guess it can make things look kinda chaotic :p

try this it works i did it yesterday use 5 blue and a whm use one with war sub as a tank voke mob and cycle head but watch the mob not be able to act and the stoneskin and cocoon makes it so whm dont have a hard time u slam it to death with stun game over

Stun lasts a fraction of a second.

I was in a party yesterday in qufim, BLU/BLU/BLU/COR, we were killing worms faster then full parties, killing fish in under 45 seconds, and ending fights with >75% mana. then, the corsair would use Healer's Roll (which is stupid good), and we'd be to full by the next fish.

We had a 70WHM PL, but honestly... I haven't been in a party since august that didn't, so IMHO having a PL is basically "The Standard" these days.

Basically if you set the two spells together you get one of the traits, you can also only have one trait active at once as far as I can gather.

Even at 11/12, you can show just how Stupid Good a Blue Mage is. Wanna know the absolute best thing to skill off on those levels? Sheep! Friggin Sheep which nobody ever attacks cause of their Song! Why the sheep you ask? 1) Free chance at a spell, 2) Fairly Low Defense, 3) 3 of your spells (Wild Oats, Queasyshroom, and Sprout Smack) do extra damage to the sheep (all 3 will probably take the dang thing down to 20% HP), 4) Having just 2 of those auto gives you a trait to deal more damage to them and have a chance to intimidate.

I duoed with a Corsair for about an hour, killing nothing but Tough Sheeps, tearing through them like they were wet tissue paper.

Now Crabs on the other hand... *shudder*

You can have more then one job trait by equipping spells. I've had Hp regen and beast killer most of the time on me.
