I know this post will be long, but please take the time to read this as it is vital to understanding BLU and how it works…
First of all… let me address some things SquareEnix has said about Blue Mage.
NOW! First of all… Burst Affinity is Lv25 – NOT Lv40. This is the first of many things that were said that is false… please pay attention.
LEARNING BLUE MAGIC!
SquareEnix has said the following:
Now… this is where it gets complicated. YES, you have to be BLU main to learn spells. YES, you have to defeat the monster and not die. NO! You do not have to gain EXP from the monster to learn it! . . . here, let me repeat that one for you . . . NO!!!! YOU DON’T HAVE TO GAIN EXP!!! You can learn moves from Too Weak monsters or even have a Lv75 Friend help you by holding the monster until the monster performs the attack, and then make then kill. You don’t get EXP either way you do it, but you can learn skills. Another thing is you can also learn moves that are way the hell before the time you can actually use them… EXAMPLE: I was in the dunes and my party was killing Pugils. I was lvl 14… all of a sudden, we killed a pugil and BAM! I learned Screwdriver. Now for those of you who do not know, Screwdriver is lv26. “That cant be!†some people have told me… but it is happening all the time! Check with some of your friends who play BLU some of them probably have learned moves beyond their time to use them. THUS, after research with checking in on people from all lvls and learning the patterns of this… I have come to the conclusion that you can learn a move if you are fighting a monster type that uses the move… doesn’t matter if the lvl for the spell is 50+ … you can learn it at Lv10 if you can find a monster of the same type that does it.
NOW! Here comes the whole “Blue Physical Magic is effected by TP†deal….
I have been playing BLU for 3 days now.. Im in my 30s now and I can tell you this… TP doesn’t do shit! I have spent hours in EXP parties experimenting with this and its simple facts that TP doesn’t effect your physical spells until you get Chain Affinity and actually activate it. Here is my proof:
Bludgeon is Lv18. It’s a great 3 hit move… at 0%TP my spell did 3 damages. At 100%TP my spell did the same 3 damages. At 200% and at 300% my spell did the exact same damages. And here is what the damages here: … 1-35… 36-75… 76-120. Now here is my conclusion… like the WS “Comboâ€, if one of the three hits misses, it lowers the damage caused. THUS, 3 different damages for 3 different hits. Make sense, if it doesn’t reread this or have a BRD play an INT song on you so you can comprehend that TP DOESN’T EFFECT NORMAL CASTING! Im confident that TP only effects the spell when Chain Affinity is activated.

LEARNING BLUE MAGIC!
SquareEnix has said the following:
- You can only learn the special abilities of monsters when blue mage is set as your main job.
- You have a chance to acquire blue magic when defeating a monster that has used a learnable special ability.
- It is not possible to learn blue magic that is too far above your level.
- You will not acquire blue magic if you are KO'd when a monster is defeated, or the defeated monster does not yield experience points.
