Too much AoE?

I began thinking about both some developer comments (that Blue mages have many AoEs), and the recent videos, which obviously show blue mages doing mostly AoEs...

Many enemies have AoEs to make them more effective against parties... So blue mage will have a ton of them..

How often are AoEs useful?

I can think of some great BCNM situations for them, but in experience parties I think they may never get used.

I think most of the time the AoE won't be too bad depending on camps.

There are also quite a few good single target attacks, but mostly don't incorperate a negative status, which is what makes those AoE ones so delicious.

End game though, when you want to pull monsters fast, a good Demon Howl when the first mob is dying and the second is being pulled into campe will probably help your party out.

As long as you act intelligently, BLU should be one of those incredibly fun jobs to play.
