The standard subjobs for BLM are:

/WHM - the obvious choice, and you get Reraise at 50, and Stoneskin at 56
/NIN - mostly used for manaburn/solo; Utsusemi's 3 shadows should be enough to let you do something if you can't one-shot your target
/RDM - for Gravity, of course, and maybe Dispel, plus you get heals

/COR can also be useful in manaburn parties for Corsair's Roll, to get a little more XP, and you only need to take it to level 5 for that.

Yeah that was my goal, to have a 75 BLM but after analyzing my past play time in the event and the amount of gameplay I'm limited to do, I just decided I'll put off on BLM for now and wait for XIV who knows maybe playing BLM in this one will not be so limited. But then again who knows what the system will be like all together, guess I'll just wait and find out.

You left out /SCH

BLM/SCH is a machine of death & efficiency. It's not recommended if you need protective spells like Blink & SS however (unless you have a SMN in the PT)

I almost included /SCH. A quick check on my server showed a lot of /WHM and /RDM, with only a few SCH and /NIN.

Then those BLMs don't know what they are missing.

Blm/Sch gives you Sublimation, which is almost the equvilant to Convert, but it has no time limit to when it can be used. Also, you get dark arts which reduces the amount of Mp it costs to cast a spell. They can even switch to light arts, and heal if needed.

The same is with Rdms on my server. All of them are either /Whm, or /Blm... None have a melee sub. They don't know what they are missing either lol

Thats nice, until something chases your ass down and kills you due to lack of Stoneskin, Blink, Gravity. I'll never trade those spells in for some extra MP I can get through other means.

That's precisely why I said BLM/SCH in scenarios where you won't need the defensive spells (EXP parties, and events with a lot of good PLD) because the MP endurance that /SCH adds to BLM is incredible. You also gain dispel as you would from /RDM though you have to use add:Black to get it.

Being able to heal with B+ skill when needed is nice too, since you'll still get RR, na-spells, Regen II etc. The only things you're missing from WHM sub are Erase, barspells, Curagas and Divine Seal. I absolutely loved using BLM/SCH in EXP parties as it basically negated my being an Elvaan =3 (well, MP-wise. Still sucks having lowest INT >.<)

Very few EXP parties I have been in on BLM have been safe enough for me to use /SCH.. So I just default on /WHM usually and /RDM in a Manaburn.

/sch is fine for exping, but for anything endgame-wise, I'd rather stick to /rdm and /whm. Stoneskin and blink are indispensible to me. For any aoe and the offchance that I get hate, stoneskin is a lifesaver. And /rdm onry for manaburns. Gravity + stoneskin are great, yep.

Depends what level and where.. Usually I try get a BLM/NIN a BLM/WHM and the rest can be BLM/RDM or BLM/SCH.

In manaburn BLM/SCH wasn't so good for my Mithra. I still ended up waiting for other people's MP, but I needed to be healed occasionally because on the occasions where I was targeted I had no protection. I went back to /RDM and /WHM.

Events where there is a tank is where you can safely go /SCH I guess.

O I loved black mage.It was a welcome change to PLD or so I thought after the dunes I had to solo to 50 which reminded me of the 70-75 PLD lvling DEATHMARCH I had to do
.Questing for spells as PLD/THF never worked out either.
But when I got into a party window mode on looked up mob weaknesses bang fun was had.
Of course most of these parties bar 1 was really bad tanks couldn't keep hate so healer died each 3/4 fights BLM gets blamed for it.
Makes no sense IMO y would a healer get targeted with H8 if I used water on a mob and he/she cures the crap out of the WAR/NIN.Accuse tank of being useless get kicked come back raise as PLD 75 Farm wahtc party die laugh farm and ignore /t raise can i have it please assist

Alot of the time, I'd prefer to have a BLM/RDM there with a BRD in the mage party.

Only thing I can see /SMN being used for is MP.. but we have /SCH now so I'd rather just use that.

(Yes, /SMN for kiting to.. but I'd go /RDM for Gravity)
