  • Merit Group 1 and Group2 Help

    My thinking is:

    Group 1:
    5 Ice
    5 thunder

    I usually only use Thunder and Ice spells when nuking.

    Group 2:
    1 Tornado 2
    1 Flood 2
    3 Burst 2
    1 Quake 2
    3 Freeze 2
    1 Flare 2

    I want one of each but I use Burst 2 and Freeze 2 more often.


    Any better suggestions?

      Well, TBH, think about how much you actually get to MB anymore. Most BLMs I see just free-nuke, or are used for stuns, lol. That seems like a good setup to use. (I also recommend if you haven't done so, to cap Elemental and Enfeebling merits before you decide to merit potency or any Tier II AM.)

        Alot of endgame stuff you can still MB abit, not everything can be TP burned. And considering BLM Group 2 is nothing BUT those abilities, not much can be done about picking an alternative :3

          You've pretty well got it right.

          You'll want the full set of AM2 just in case (and for fun with /SCH and Manafont!) and ice and lightning are your most damaging elements in addition to covering both Light and Darkness chains.

          I personally don't feel any need to spend more than is required to get each spell in group 2 but if you've got nothing better to blow your merits on go ahead.

            In my years in endgame, besides Tornado on Kirin (but not anymore since we melee burn it), I use Freeze 2 and Burst 2 exclusively. Personally, I think its a waste to get the other tier 2 nukes when the points can be put to better use. Ya, its fun to be able to cast them and go ooooo and aaaaah but after all the meritting I put in I want something more than just that.

              Ok so I am not crazy in my thinking. The reason is my current merit points are:

                Looks fine to me. Also try to max out or work on elemental magic skill when you get the chance.

                  Since you already have all 6 AM II's I'd leave group 2 alone. Focus on maxing out that potency and then Elemental and Enfeebling skill if you really want to max out your BLM. Actually, I would put a couple into the skills first since they're cheaper and then go back to max out the potencies.

                    My plan was to completely finish BLM catagory then move on to BLU. This way I wont have to go back to BLM unless they(SE) make more merit changes.

                    From a discussion I had with everyone last year, my plan for the Magic Skill catagory is:
                    5 Elemental Magic Skill
                    6 Enfeebling Magic Skill
                    5 Blue Magic Skill

                    If I recall correctly, I was told that the other skills do help but are not as important to the job as the ones listed above. I wont be uber but I wont be a leech with the skills picked above.

                      Regardless of how many other jobs he plans to level, he should put some amount of skill into elemental magic (unless he plans on never using his black mage once he hits 75, which is almost never the case)

                        Dark is so random that it's not really worth meriting, just capping. You will see the most benefit from the 3 skills you named.


                        Also, IIRC there was mention I think over at JP-Button that our Dev Team is considering raising the caps again on merits. I don't know if that just means higher combinations (i.e. bumping combat skills from 20-24) or increasing the max for any given category (I can't really see them doing either though for Job Merits... that'd be just a tad insane)

                          As stated the only AM2 you will regularly cast (besides on Kirin) are burst2 and freeze2 because w/o potency merits AM2 are less mp efficiant than t4's.

                            Hold on, I was just mulling over the descriptions of the AM 2's and there's something I think I missed;


                            The way it's worded, it implies that the magic accuracy bonus is applied by default, and not just on magic bursts like the extra damage is. If this is the case, lv 5 freeze and burst 2 is the way to go (tornado 2 be damned, even for kirin)

                            That's +20 magic accuracy, you can't freaking beat that.

                              It's worded that way, although I'd wait till a BLM confirms. If the Mythic weapons tell us anything, its that SE makes mistakes in their grammar, although Magic Accuracy on Magic Burst alone seems kinda silly considering the properties of Magic Burst.
