  • AMII = Tier V?

well, i'm a little behind on FFXI right now, as i just returned to the game after quitting for 6 months. But i just got burst II last night and all i can say is wow.

so now i'm thinking..... wtf am i going to do? considering the damage amII does, the mp cost, and the cast time, it would be safe to say that these spells could easily replace the tier IV spells. In fact, they should have been called tier V spells in my eyes. So i'm stuck on deciding whether to take advantage of my lv 5 thunder and ice potency and get lv 3 burst II and lv3 freeze II, or just putting 1 merit into each amII spell and using them as if they were tier 5 singl target nukes. My head hurts... someone decide for me

I'd put 3 in only 1 spell. Either Burst II or Freeze II consideriong most Blm should have their ice and thunder merit capped. Then you'll have 2 more points to spend, just pick 2 spells you want.

It sucks that you have to choose between improving one or two spells and having all the spells.

But for practical purposes getting lvl 3 on Burst II and Freeze II sounds like the best way to do it.

yes.... choosing sux. However i like the idea of putting lv 3 burst on, then getting 3 spells of my choice, as i wouldnt need the added MB dmg from meriting them, because, well, i only MB with thunder and i seldom party.... usually solo or manaburn. that would make me more flexible. I'd like to have tornado II for kirin for sure, and freeze II definitely for soloing since my ice potency is capped as well. for the last one though..... i dunno.... hmmm: quake II, flood II, flare II (Which?)

Just for the look, I choose flare II. How can it be FF without Flare right.

              Re: AMII = Tier V?

look at it this way, beacuse of INT on the staff and ice merit potenies you can still do almost the same damage as a blm using Obi and relic pants to corrospnd to the day boils down to 15 INT (16 INT with sorc's belt) with 10 MAB vs a 10% boost then a 5% boost after that, gets really close. like if you did a flood II with obi and relic pants on water day VS just a normal freeze II

i did 3 freeze II 2 burst II and one tornado II, i like the way it looks and wind is one of the weaker seris in the game.

looks like what a f4 or a f5 tornado would look like, i dont like the way flare II looks.

                Re: AMII = Tier V?

I would put 3 merits into each Burst II and Freeze II. The obvious reason is efficency, Ice and Thunder are the strongest elements so you should have them capped anyway. The second if for looks. I've seen all the AM II and Quake II is as ghey as ever but now it makes more lag, Tornado II is ok but it just it's as nice as Tornado I lol... Flare II is cool but it misses the "explodey" thing that Flare I had going on, and Flood II looks like a bigger Flood but since it's so big you can't see the whole thing XD.

                      Reviving a semi-old thread...

...responding to the title... obviously no, but it's not just because of the names; it's about mp efficiancy. The tier X spells go up in efficiancy per tier, so it looks like: tier4>tier3>tier2>tier1, however instead of AM2 being more mp efficiant than a tier4 they are actually less efficiant than a tier3. Overall considering dmg/mp ratio the spells go tier4>tier3>AM2>tier2>tier1>AM1

Yes, I know this post is a little redundant, but I was searching through the Blm forum and I was bored.

Actually tier V spells do exist. They're currently only usable by mobs though. The /recast command is a wonderful thing ^^
