  • New to BLM just a few Questions.

Hello I'm trying all differnt classes and i was wondering if a BLM and a THF for sub will be good for a combo. was gonna use the THF for mugging and stealing to earn cash. I dont know this game very well but am learning it slowly.

I made a Tara for the magic reason. Any sugestions for a new person. I've done one mission so far and working on 2nd but the 2nd mission isnt working as i cannot open the door to the place inside Wind Hurst woods forgot the name of it.

Anyways any sugestion for Armor and Weapon to get once i'm lvl 7? or 6? or should i craft my own as a Weaver?
I'm also doing Cooking and fishing to earn some extra cash. Thanks for any Information take care.

oh btw the 2nd mission i'm on is called Heart of the Matter (spelling?)

Please don't sub THF to BLM for gaining experience points unless you like receiving no invites (and even less so when XPing solo). Steal and Mug aren't terribly effective even for main job thieves, and even less so when subbed.

The most appropriate subjobs for BLM are WHM and RDM at most level rangesls. There are other combinations that work, but they aren't recommended unless you have a lot of experience with what you're doing and know how to make use of them in specific cases.

If you're looking to make money, I think Fishing probably makes the most money early on. You can make a sizable amount of money fishing for moat carp even at 0 skill with a decent fishing rod and some bait.

As Icemage said it's best to sub RDM or WHM. Which one you actually pick is up to you and I would recommend leveling both to see which suits your style of play best. As for gear on your BLM it's nice to keep it up to date but there are alot of times when there just isn't anything better than what you already have, I wore Seer's gear (lvl29) up until my mid 50's just because it's the best for stat boosts.

Crafting in this game is far differant than any other game I've played in the fact that unless you are high enough to farm everything you use then you are most likely going to lose money as you level your craft, 90% of the time (depending on server) the materials needed to make an item are far more expensive than the actual cost of the item.

Yes please don't use THF sub for BLM. RDM and WHM is the best. Yes there was a time when BLM/NIN was a fad, but that went away eventually. Crafting for a BLM normally is cooking.

At higher lvs you can make your own pies, and drinks, without having to pay that overly priced 600k for a rolanberry pie+1 later on. Cooking can return good gil.

WHM you should have no problem lvn to 37 as same for RDM. I would use /thf for farming, and farming only.

Hi there please take Icemage's advice,

He is a really respected member on the forums and really does know his stuff, I'm a whm/blm.
When thinking of a subjob from what I understand, its best to choose a subjob that will compliament your main,
whith whm I use blm as my sub for the extra mp,
I use cooking as my craft as you can make cookies and juices which are handy for mages. also I plan to be a beastmaster, cooking is handy i can make pet food and jugs. this game takes ALOT of planning,

          Good luck to you

OK, I am not going to tell you what to do, but you said you want THF for gil and etc. So its pretty simple.

IF you decide to go RDM as sub, just lvl RDM and THF. Use RDM as sub when XPing, but when you want to farm and etc, change sub to THF for that time frame. When ready to XP again, change subjob back to RDM.

You can switch back and forth. And really, despite what anyone else says, play whatever combo you enjoy, its your time spent and your money. Will you get less invites? Maybe, but who cares as long as you enjoy it and you can deal with it. Your enjoyment out of this GAME is what matters. Not everyone elses.

Agreed with most of the above, but even though it is your time and money spent on the game, when it comes to XP parties, there are five other people present who are also paying to play, and not bringing your best abilities to the table because you just want to be "different" isn't really a good idea.

Not that there's anything really preventing someone from levelling using BLM/THF, but good luck trying to convince five other players that you being able to Steal a beastcoin off 1 of 20 goblins makes you a better teammate than the BLM/WHM at your level who is seeking and can cast Cure instead.

Re: New to BLM just a few Questions.

Agreed, but like I said, if he can live with less party invites, more power to him. But it sounds like he just wants it for the farming aspect, so if that is the case, he can level THF to use as sub on his own personal time.

Sounds like he may be confused as if you are stuck with that subjob the whole time, where as you can switch back and forth depending on situation. When I first started off, I was confused aboutthe whole Main/Subjob process to.

But if really want to use THF as subjob for XP, go for it, you can always change it later.

                SIDE NOTE:

People on these forums like Icemage and Satori are VERY knowledgable. It would benefit you to take whatever advice is given. But the great part of this game is the customization. You can always correct a mistake or change what you end up deciding what to do

Thanks for the Advace and wasnt just doing it for farming. As Marakii said i'm a bit confused on this Sub job thing. I will be making a 2nd char later tho so ill probally do a War/Thf from what i saw that's a better combination as you can Duel Wield and get more damage for your bucks. But for my sub job I wanna beable to heal myself and possibly others if i decide to party.

I'm not really a people person very shy sometimes so usually i solo. But the WHM sounds good with some of the spells. Especially Teleport since I will beable to teleport myself around and earn extra gill when i see request for it.. (Noticed in Asura alot of people asking for Teleport Dem or something to the point)

As for equipment wise I was thinking of saving all my Conquest points and get them off the Conquest point vendor. Ive yet to see info on Conquest Armor any info would be appreciated. Atm i'm thinking of getting Leather gear from the Vendors. And maybe some INT rings would MND earrings or rings be ok?

Re: New to BLM just a few Questions.

If you want to play as WAR/THF you don't have to create a new character. One of the best features of FFXI's Job/Subjob system is the ability to set any combination of jobs you like any time you enter your Mog House or visit a Moogle.

So if you want to go out and farm for a while, just walk into your house, talk to the moogle and have him change your subjob to /THF. If you change your mind and want to play WAR/THF, just change your main job to Warrior.

Unlike other MMORPGs, you are not restricted to a single combination of jobs on your character.

You may want to start working on those people skills then. It would be very hard, if not impossible, to advance all the way to the top by yourself. Soloing for exp gets harder and harder as you go up in level. It becomes very hard, if not impossible, to get any meaningful exp by yoruself after the 20's.

Indeed. /WHM is a nice starting sub for BLM. In fact, I find it a better sub than /RDM in the lower~mid levels.

However, don't exclude leveling /RDM for an alternate sub. After mid 60's, /RDM will start to shine through in some situations. It also helps a lot for soloing (yes, BLM can solo a bit end game for loot, quest, and light exp, but parties is still a must for a good deal of the way there.)

You will find that most people keep multiple subs leveled for a single main job. It makes them versatile. For example, /MNK, /THF, /NIN for WAR, and /WHM, /BLM for RDM. It's more work, but I think it's really worth it. Also you get to have a taste of more variety of jobs while you are preparing the subs. ^^

The conquest armor... used to be ok. (assuming you area talking about the combat caster/tact. magician stuff for BLM) However, subsquent updates kinda made them obsolete with newer and better things. Check out the Seer's set on AH.

There aren't too many INT and MND earrings, just maybe morion and geist, and they can be pretty pricey. There is cunning earring, and it can be quested. Stay with INT rings for now, and just slap a MP earring or mythiril on for evasion. Keep in mind, after 47, you'd want a rare/ex earring from a NM. And you'd want it on all the time. (look up Moldavite Earring)

Other than that, just keep a +INT wand as weapon, and upgrade to the elemental staves after 51.

You can only dual weild with a nin sub but this doesn't make war/thf any less useful. The part about conquest point and armor for them was already explained but as far as buying armor from vendors, well it's not a good idea because you'll spend alot more money than if you just get it off the auction house. As far as rings go with BLM, early on you'll need as much int as you can get and seeing as you are taru then you won't need any help with your mana.

blm/rdm is more powerful than blm/whm, but blm/whm will complement other party members in more circumstances.

blm/thf should be reserved for solo play or play with good friends.

[sub]@37+ = NIN THF RNG WHM RDM

in other words blm/thf is a no

and to add on to the whole sub job selection bit here:

Blm/Rdm means most of all your spells are going to be offensive

Blm/Whm means you will be able to help the party out by support healing and you can kinda solo with having cure
