Ok i want to get a black mage but what is the best race for one? And I was also wondering what are good sub jobs to have with a black mage? And lastly, do black mages get a lot of invites???

I understand what you are asking for is an opinion and not links to blm and race stats so I will answer your question as best as I can, opinion wise anyway.

If you are playing FFxi and are mostly interested in blm and want to be as powerfull as a blm that you can possibly be then the best race is Taru because they have the highest Int of all the races to start with. This means that they will nuke for more damage compared to other races unless your gear is absalute crap and the next non taru blm next to you has absalute pimp gear. Even then the taru will probably nuke higher. In the end game most devoted blm are taru.

Another thing to consider is do you want to look good and also have a good race for doing other jobs as you may get bored of the same job all the time. In that case a hume or mithran blm is worth considering. Some would argue that taru look very good. Humes are very middle ground stat wise so they can be exceptional at anything and are a great race to take on several jobs, including blm. Mithra has the 2nd highest base Int in the game and in endgame lvls tend to nuke right in the same ballpark as humans. I have seen the argument about what is better, the mithran blm or the human blm so many times I would like to call it a tie when it comes to the stats.

My favorite race for blm is mithra because thats what I play as blm in the game. Just the other day I was manaburning and the 5 taru blm I was with were all drooling over the capabilities of a nearby hume blm that was soloing the pudding that we were teaming up with using 6 blm. So that just goes to show the real power of the blm that you will use is in the player and ofcourse a load of upper endgame gear helps aswell no matter what race you choose to play with.
