"I am very tired and it is very late. These other people are speaking decent English, so they must live within 4 time zones of me. Therefore, there is a high likelihood that it is also late for them, and any moment now we will all agree that it's time to go to bed. It wouldn't be fair to drag someone out here to the boonies when we're probably going to disband in another half hour anyway."

Clinging to this thread of hope, it's very easy to push yourself much farther than is admittedly safe. Remember, when your judgement is impaired, YOUR JUDGEMENT IS IMPAIRED. You don't stop and think "Wow I'm harming myself by doing this," just like you don't stop and think "This stuff is actually poisonous to me" before you chug down a pitcher of beer.

Not to mention, I was EXPing with one of my friends when she suddenly stopped reacting. She was I beleive the THF and puller at the time. No more SATA. No more viper bite. When the battle ended, she sheathed her weapon and did not move.

We all /poked her for a while, and I sent her a number of /tells, got no response, and we all finally got a new puller.

Three days later, I get a message from her:

"Sorry I abandoned that party. My house got broken into and I was assaulted. I've been at the hospital."

It just goes to show that you never know. Would it really have been the right thing to do to to leave her character there to die, because her house got broken into and burgled, her arm got broken, and she had to give statements to the police and pay bookoo hospital bills?

Would logging in again to a dead character in Crawler's Nest really have made her stop and think "Wow I shouldn't let a man throw a rock through the window and climb in after it anymore?"

again, i think if her story was the truth, the least she would be worried about is a little xp loss in a game....

      maybe one scenario of thought

another and more likely, as I believe spineless people evolve a back-bone thru the anonymity of the internet....

"I really want to get my next level so i can wear <x> piece of armor, I am absolutely shattered and my body is telling me to sleep but I am going to continue to ignore it." 20 mins later falls asleep...

is as realistic as someone being so naive to think.......

I live in GMT and am well aware that the australians, and americans speak english as their native language and are between 5-12 hours difference than me. To assume people speaking "decent english" are in more-or-less the same timezone is very naive and very american...

This isn't about xp loss, it's about you dealing punishment out to people as you see fit. It's about being a complete ass to people who don't do exactly as you want them to do, and leaving them in an aggro zone to die instead of taking five seconds to get them safe and maybe making a new friend.

Just because it's a game doesn't give you a license to treat people like dirt.

This however is truth. Before the EU release this might've been true, but it's been years since the game was released over there.

its about people not joining a PT if they only have 1 hr to play and its gonna take 30 mins to get to camp, its about people giving a 30 min warning if they need to leave to go sleep or w/e, its about responsible play and forward planning.....

If players decide to heed these principles then MPK is fair game..

            *cough cough*

Please refer to my "Judgement impaired" statement. Just because you think that when you're wide awake doesn't mean that when you are hafl-asleep you will consider the option that you are the sole person in GMT/EST/PST/wherever and everyone else in the party is co-incidentally on the other side of the world. I already addressed that issue.

As to her story being truth or not...truth is that she did live in a very bad neighborhood. Truth is that after sending me that message she did vanish from ffxi for three or four months, conisistent with not being able to operate a keyboard or controller very efficently. Truth is that EXP loss would not be her largest concern.

But would you kick someone in the face because "Something else bad happened to them, so broken teeth shouldn't be their first concern?"

Would you like it when a driver crashes into the pole that carries power lines to your house, so your party MPKs you when you disconnect, because it is their belief that people should not party if there is a chance their connection may be lost? Admit it, a tank or WHM that d/c's is just as dangerous as one that doesn't respond. The only difference is the presence or absence of an icon against which one can chose to either display a moment of compassion, or a moment of blind unreasoning and possibly unreasonable rage.

            EDIT

And to think that the only reason I came into this forum was to give anyone who played BLM a pat on the back for playing and putitng up with and even enjoying what I consider a terminally boring and under-developed but in very many cases essential job.

I know, I have read another post that says this is not your first character. Maybe take a break from MMORPG and you will see that losing 2k of xp isnt the end of the world...
So first I don't know enough about the game to have an opinion on what parties are like. And then when she discovers I've been playing longer than she has, suddenly I need to take a break from MMOs because I have no life.

              No sidestepping here, folks.

I said this with the knowledge that you have had other characters ... (i read a post from you in another thread) and made it clear by saying....

But i do think that you need a few more xp parties to get a better grip - maybe higher level ones where you have to travel a bit further than konschat highlands...

see no sidestepping, you just skipped some posts and made a bad...!!!

You are completely getting everything wrong. You are entitled to an opinion on what parties are like even if youve only played for a week, but that opinion will not be based on very much experiences.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the parties you are in atm you can expect to get a few thousand xp?! I PT'd at last weekend and got around 80-90K xp in 2 parties - constantly replacing members with warnings given with reasonable times. I would not expect this at dunes or CN (your job levels)

There is a difference in low-level PT and high-level PT. Low-level PT's disband all the time for w/e reason - and its half-expected. When at high-level people are generally creditted with more PT ethics and in my experience give people warnings if they are tired or need to go eat etc.

I think you will either remember these things when you get your character to high level again, or..... remain a low-level player with a high-level job.

                  Re: I love you BLMs...

What is wrong with you, exactly? Are you completely bereft of critical thinking skills?

What you are sidestepping is that you have no justification for meting out punishment to other people in your party. You can try and ignore this by focusing on how long I've been playing, or what jobs I've played, or whether or not my friend falls asleep too fast, but none of that has anything to do with this conversation. If you kill a party member or by your negligence allow them to die because you are mad at them for falling asleep, going AFK, or whatever, you are in the wrong.

And I've taken three jobs to 65+ and four or five to 50+, so while I'm familiar with the Highlands, it's not exactly my regular stomping grounds. Genius.

Did you not understand the sentence? That would explain the laughter.

I especially love how you mention ethics, because killing someone or letting them die because you are angry with them is totally ethicial.

I get what you're saying. I have all along. I just disagree on the ground that your POV is completely ridiculous and unjustified. No amount of explanation on your part about how your high level parties are so different is going to convince me otherwise. And clearly no amount of explaining on my part is going to convince you either so we may as well drop it.
