Best thing: If you're mithra, wear a Mithran Stone (ACC+3 EVA+3 belt). It reportedly has hidden effect additional ACC+10 and EVA+10 (ACC+13 EVA+13 total) while NOT using food.

Subbing ninja is widely accepted for a few uses:
Black mage soloing (like in Sea)
Jailer of Fortitude
General HNM business

It's not usually popular for parties because you lose the capacity to cure in an emergency, though usually when I'm a black mage in a well-balanced party, I make essentially no use of that capacity. It's often maligned in HNM, too, because it encourages black mages to pull hate more readily. (Post 74, with Utsusemi: Ni, you can survive a pretty long time without getting hit. :p)

I've never seen parties seriously target Colibri, so I haven't seen Blm sub /Nin for that in particular, no, nor do I regularly see them sub /Nin for xp parties. It is, however, used by black mages elsewhere in similar (and other) situations.

(I guess I'm not exactly sure what your question was, but subbing Ninja on black mages is widely accepted for JoF. With Reflect, there are few other safe ways of damaging him. Meleeing him is possible but very unpleasant.)

When they eat your food, they get the same stat boosts as you, but does the timer reset on how long it lasts, or do they just take over the remaining time until it wears off?

Lesser Colibri do not counter your magic.

Colibris do however (the ones in Bhaflau)

They do eat your food if you have hate when they use that TP move, or eat your TP. The best way is just not eat food if you're going to hold main hate on these.

Keep in mind that whoever casts the first magic on it has hate, and the Colibri will counter cast it on the person who has hate. For example, brd casting Elegy on these, will have Elegy casted on them if their tank have not voked it.

And yes, they need to 'cast' the magic. It doesnt just happen. Silencing them will effectively disable their ability to counter cast your magic back on yourself!

Other than that, we LOVE these toucans, they're great exp for small/duo/trio/four-io? Racked in 8k/hr 4manning these for many levels XD

Make of that what you will. I'm a bit skeptical myself, but the price on this item keeps fluctuating for whatever reason - my character is Tarutaru so I can't test it personally.

Interesting -- are you sure about this? This is definitely not how Jailer of Fortitute works. (He casts the spell back on the original caster, not the person with hate.)

I've had at LEAST 10 parties fight Cilibri exclusively and I'm a BLM. I don't need Utsusemi, Blink works just fine, I realize that Blink won't ALWAYS catch them 95% it does and if it doesn't I can cast drain and get w/e I lost back. Keep /WHM and cast Blick, you'll be okay, I promise

Yeah, they "mimic" the spells cast onto whoever has hate, not necessarily who cast the spell. I cast Banish on them a couple times, and they proceeded to cast Banish on our ninja. Probably a good thing I didn't use Holy, they were getting a lot more mileage out of my spells than I was.

That'd be a medicine, perhaps a medicated status with it. As far as I have seen, they only steal a food effect.

You could do Cursed Soup or Adamantoise Soup, but both of those are way expensive so I won't suggest them.

A closer bet would be Ground Wasabi, they're still a bit pricey at around 2k a pop.

Well, if your PT really wanted to fight these, I'd say your best bet as a BLM would be to sub NIN and only use single-target nukes.

Just a thought.....perhaps this reflect ability is a possible BLU spell. Could use it and cast any spell on yourself, only to have it reflected onto him.
