          Re: oh yay! we're next

Knowing SE, this entire nerf will make it completely impossible to kill any HNM without the use of summoner. Everything is going to become a Vrtra fight...

SE's track record is very firm in showing that they are too lazy/inefficient or down right incompetent to manage to even things, while still not hurting someone/something too weak.

Blm at this point IMHO and everyone else I know is perfect, we do appropriate damage. We can do fast damage, but all other jobs damage adds up. A war that is 73-75 is normally hitting for about 70-90 per hit while using 2 axes.

If they nerf blm bad, they had better well do the same thing to, mnk, sam, war, and nin.

I saw a nin solo a T catoblepas the other day.

This game is completely jacked up in many instances. They should fix other jobs instead of hurting more jobs.

And as the rng nerf hurting arrowburn parties... Not even close, had a friend that was #9 in an arrowburn 2 days ago.

What I don't understand is that they always go around "nerfing" other jobs that are decently rounded. Yeah a few of them were over kill, but when was the last time we saw a RNG nerf? Shouldn't that have been the first job to have been altered to make things more even?

I can't recall all the nerfs that have been passed down, but off the top of my head, I think the only one I didn't have a big problem with, was the TP nerf. DRG/SAMs and DRK/SAMS were spending too much time spamming Penta Thrusts and Guillotines. I wish I could have done it at least once or twice myself, but I know why it was done, and understand it.

                    Re: oh yay! we're next

What I don't like is that they (SE) isnt telling us anything about this 18 hour maintenance update... If they are nerfing the blm with this update making me less powerfull im gonna puke.

Yes we might be powerfull in certain situations and ok manaburn pt's might be something they want to stop, but nerfing us for doing good dmg is just sad.
Whenever BLM do good dmg they also get hate. Only thing I see as awesome dmg is Magic bursting with Blizzaga II->III
And if they nerf us for that -> What are PT's then gonna want us for?
                    if not for MB'ing?

calm down michaeldue. they said this is for server maintenance, i.e. hardware. if they were going to do something as drastic as nerf BLMs, I think they'd say something in an update notice.

                      Thanks Yyg!

meh idk your rite they do nurf jobs taht are decently rounded.... But maybe they do this because they dont want a job to strong, so that people will play other jobs or something. so the game is well rounded in jobs, and people just dont flock to one job?

i really think its stupid.. Blm's were fine how they were.. (i really hope they dont change them at all)

                          Re: oh yay! we're next

BLM is a bit overpowered in a few situations. Look at how they dominate in situations like BCNMs. There's a lot of situations where you pretty much have to have BLMs: Dynamis, a lot of multi-enemy BCs, as well as phys-resist enemies like Aspidochelone.

That being said, magic is always fickle. While you'll almost never actually "miss" with a spell (barring some rare effects like Magic Shield or Magic Invincibility), with the big damage comes the big enmity price tag too, and BLMs are pretty fragile.

I'm not really sure the balance of power needs to be changed any more than it already has, but given the enormous popularity of the BLM job even pre-RNG nerf, I can see why S-E might turn a jaundiced eye if too many of those former RNGs that quit suddenly shift and fill the ranks of BLMs.

I remember reading somewhere, and it might have been in this thread, that the best idea to "nerf" black mages would be having the monster build up a moderate and temporary reistence towards magic when it's casted upon. This way mana burn parties wouldn't be as successful, and it wouldn't completely gimp black mages in normal parties.

This is exactly how I feel. It seems that BLM's are balanced enough as it is due to the fact that we do, indeed, get massive amounts of enmity for the actions we take in battle because we do damage in large chunks. Its also very hard for us to do anything about this enmity boost because the way I see it, so instead we must take care as to what nukes we actually use so as not to irritate the monster we're fighting too much, resulting in certain death. BLM doesn't need to be nerfed, just fix DRG and DRK already and end everyone's crying at once!

Edit: Also in regards to the reducing everyone's INT levels to the same general level, this also ties in with the enmity factor because having Tarutaru INT, you have to be a lot more careful about casting higher level nukes than other races as you're bound to do tons more damage than they are...

                              Gotta love Manaburn parties

The upcoming nerfing of BLM shouldn't be too, too bad; after all BLM are critical damage dealers in FFXI.
