You went all the way to level 70 without Sleepga II?

I haven't done this Genkai myself (yet)...but I've heard enough testimony from BLMs who have to garner an idea of what to do...

A common strat for BLM G5 is this:

Ancient Magic of your choice -> Elemental Seal+Sleep II -> Ancient Magic of the element that your first AM lowered Maat's defense against -> Manafont+Stun -> -ga III spell of the element that your second AM lowered Maat's defense against

For best results, fight Maat on the day matching the element of your first AM. This is to lower the chances of Maat resisting the damage of your first AM, since you'll have to save your Elemental Seal for Sleep II...it won't land otherwise.

An example of this strat would be:

      Enter the BC on Iceday

      Freeze -> Elemental Seal+Sleep II -> Flare -> Manafont+Stun -> Waterga III

And do take into account that the first half of this strat is extremely MP exhausting...for the method I posted above, you would be spending 719 MP before Manafont, assuming, of course, that Conserve MP does not kick in anywhere (and there's a good chance that it won't). If you don't have enough MP for your two AMs and a Sleep II, you'll have to use Manafont earlier.

          The flow is simple...

Go in on darksday so Maat perfers drain to big nukes, also to extend your sleep duration.

Open with big ancient nuke, I used Flare, to weaken Maat to another element.

ES+Sleep2 to stop whatever he's trying to cast.

Big nuke of the element Maat is wekened to, I used Flood here. If you have good gears and some good luck, Maat should give up at this point. If not, Stun what ever he's trying to cast now, and follow up with another nuke, I was planning on useing Thunder III here since he was weakened to thunder now.

If you wanted to play it safe, you can even use a reraise scroll, and stick a Bio II just after the second nuke. This stops Maat from regaining HP even when you go down, and continues to take away his already low HP. If he gets you after this point, just get back up, manafont, and go for the kill.

I fought Maat with my GF's Blm taru. Her gears were pretty simple. She had full AF and black cloak which I switch around for nuke and sleep, +2int ring, windurst ring, cheap +mp and +int stuff, ate no food. The most important and expensive stuff I used was probably the 4 elemental staffs which I switched around according to the spells I used.

So worry not :D I think as long as you sleep doesn't get resisted and maat doesn't chain WS on you you'll be fine.

ES+Sleep2 to stop whatever he's trying to cast.
Aye...I forgot to mention, as soon as you blast Maat with your first AM, he'll immediately begin casting a spell of his own. If you're quick, ES+Sleep II should be able to beat whatever he's casting...

...except if it's a Stun. Man...just pray that it's not a Stun...that could really wreck your day. One of my friends lost because Maat's first spell against her was a Stun. Of course, her Sleep II was interrupted, and she couldn't do anything as Maat got in close and pounded her face in.

Hmm...perhaps it is best to use a Reraise scroll right before the fight.

Another safety precaucion you could use is a blink headband. This is useless against Maat's AoE nukes, of course, but you do have a chance to stop his stun/sleep/or any single target nukes.

Although with the prices going the way they are now, I'd just take the death and farm another testimonial.

By the way, there is also a chance that Maat won't want to play the wizards' dual with you. Sometimes, he rushes right at you and pounds away. That usually ends the fight really quickly for us.

An HQ stave, Pentinent's Rope, Elemental Torque, but no Sleepga II? Someone must've quit and given you their stuff because...come on

The strat UnnamedGalka posted is almost exactly what I used, except use manafont BEFORE the 2nd AM to save yourself a bunch of MP and still be active for your next spell anyway.

Also, I highly suggest getting your hands on an Ice ring from Shiva before you attempt this. In your case it may not be needed, but it cant hurt to be cautious can it? Plus the ring is useful in other situations also.

Also, putting thunder staff into your stun macro can buy you some time by raising the chance for a full length stun. Alot of this is luck, but that's not to say there isnt preparation and skill involved so make sure you're mentally prepared.

                      Good luck!
