I always think of making new character Elvaan BLM because of thier awesome coolest casting in Black Magic ever !!

Lol they don't really look like this but i really love them

But i don't have the courage to start all over again just for this reason, plus i'm thinking of leveling other jobs than WHM later ..like BLM ..SMN..bard and rdm..so i would rock with smn and blm cause of our high mp and int =)

Plus theres 1 more thing.. If you have ENOUGH gil ..you can survive as BLM and buy godly Gears such as Astral rings ,RSE..etc

Race is the least important when it comes to the chain of requirements. Yes in the end would you have a slightly better advantage as a taru, of course. The point though is what matters is equips spells and overall tactics. A taru BLM who nukes to all hell wearing LV 20 pure def equips is far insuppior to an Elvaan BLM who knows what he is doing.

Get proper items, learn your strategies and you will be fine. This game is about fun so if you want go make a Taru Dragoon. I know a few and its quite funny to see a purple ball running.

Off-topic, but I have to ask...why were you guys using barfire for Fafnir? Baraero is a lot more practical.

I agree that Elvaan blm is a great job. I went into this game 2 years ago knowing that I was going to pick my race and job based on what I wanted, not based on some conformists ideas that they think are all encompassing. My Elvaan blm may not have as much mp as other races, but all one has to do to combat that is to purchase some mp boosting equipment, as well as buy mp boosting food. Final say is that an extraordinary blm is not based on his/her race, but it is based on how well he/she does the job. Great blm are not born, they are self-created.

No one is saying that Tarus suck -- really, it's impossible make a logical argument that Taru aren't an excellent choice for BLM.

Endgame, though, I have to agree...among good players, race becomes a pretty minor factor as far as effectiveness goes. The same is true for all jobs.

I don't remember anyone saying Taru BLMs suck except when they get aggro and get 1-shot. What I have seen a lot in this thread is high level BLMs of other races getting close or even in some ocassional circumstances doing better (such tarus must have been in MP+ or something other than INT+ gear) and being able to survive the emnity, which restates the Taru BLMs tend to be one-shot.

Tarus which already have obscene amounts of INT and MPs, instead of buffing something else, the trend is to be MP obsessed they'll be lvl 10 wearing 2x Astral Rings in the Dunes.

I've pretty much have done away w/ the Pies at this point. People have seemed to prefer my use of mph foods like cookies or sweetrice balls over pies anyways.

Taru BLMs definitely put up good numbers at end-game, but it's not "that" much better, and there is the fragility factor to consider.

Honestly, though, smart BLMs, regardless of race, should be packing a Terra Staff and every piece of -Phys damage gear they can lay hands on if they're worried about dying, and a Tarutaru BLM with a jelly ring/terra staff/cheviot cape combination (w/ optional JSE earring) and Stoneskin up can take quite a beating before going down.

BLM is one of the more unusual jobs in that all races do pretty well at it, as long as the play style is modified to suit the particulars of the character's race.

actually to tell the truth, I know they're out there but I haven't pt w/ a taru blm for quite a while, probably since 51. I've pt w/ a few taru whms though. I guess they all manaburn now. heck if it wasn't for a manaburn pt I was in, then before G1.

I hardly find this a coincidence, I could be wrong in my observation b/c I work 10 hrs a day and they could be "normal pting" during that time, but I'm online from home at primetime 7pm-1am EST. i ran past a pt in Cape Terrigan where they had a Taru PLD, but we're talking about taru blms though. except for the ocassional spotting out of xp, I don't see them at 60ish.

and that one taru pld opened my eyes to paladin hood for tarus during my stint in Kazaam. elvaans and tarus seem to make best plds for some reason, but that's another subject for a different thread.

K, 'cept... nobody's saying that. :p

They are just saying a well played Elvaan is preferable to a poorly played Tarutaru. They're reassuring each other that their characters aren't a total waste time and energy.

Taru BLM nuke harder and have more MP, but Elvaan are not bad BLM at all, elvaan MP pool is decent, and theres plenty of INT gear out there.
