  • Question about Burn/Frost

Last night I was in a party and 2 members, a rdm and a mnk, both told me to use Frost instead of Burn. Now I heard from others a long time ago that Burn helps spells stick to the mob better, but does it also help with more spell damage? I was under the assumption that it did, these 2 party members said that Frost, ehich lowers MND according to them, will help me score more damage. I understand that Frost also helps with Melee ACC, but I want to know does Frost or Burn help with spell damage?

By lowering the oppenents INT, you do more damage and it helps land INT Enfs on better. Frost does not lower mind, that's Shock.

Personally, I use Shock (so mnd enfeebles land better) and Frost. While doing some more spell damage is fun, so is helping melee to miss less so they can get TP for you to MB.

So then its best to use Frost and Shock instead of maybe Burn and Shock?

you always want to use Frost, I prefer Shock also because I've seen it lower resistances to both MND enfeebles and my Nukes.

The other alternative is Frost Rasp and Drown to help the melees out more. your call on what you like better. Just always use Frost. Burn is only good on BLM Pts or certain HNMs where only things doing the damage is the BLMs

Use the AGI and MND lowering one. MND is all spell defense (I don't know how it effects enfeebles though) but MND is all spell defense so I'd assume that lowering MND means more enfeebles will stick and spells do more damage and lowering AGI means more damage for melees, SC time reached quicker, WS/renkei damage done more, etc.

              So use them.

Burn decreases resists and increases Black Mage damage by lower the int of the Mob and lowers the resist to black magic enfeebles such as Gravity and blind.

Frost lowers the Agi of the mob allowing for the melee and rangers to hit more accurately on the mob.

Shock lower the Mnd of a mob allowing for white magic enfeebles to such as praralyze and slow to stick more easily and longer.

In the majority of partys you'll want Shock + Frost for easier white magic enfeebles and more tp gain and damage for melees.

Burn is used when you have a party that's damage is primarily that of black magic, such as Manaburn partys, or your fighting mobs that the melee have no problems hitting.

                  Just an extra follow-up.

If you find your PT slaughtering VT or IT-, burn/choke is the way to go. Or hell, even in IT++ PT if the melee are hitting very well

actually, choke seems to perform better under most any circumstances except troublesome mob types (big birds, raptors, weapons come to mind) which seem to have enhanced evasion beyong anything a melee can reach. or if one of your DDs is a gimp ~_~

anyway, try not to lock yourself into using the same debuffs over and over without thinking ^^

Against IT++ enemies who are weak or neutral to lightning, opening with Shock is very handy. Dropping their MND score out of the stratosphere helps other debuffs land more easily.
