Well, lately I've been really starting to question how the game works. I was puzzling over whether I should go with the Igquirra Weskit, or Errant Houppelande (a few people were telling me the Weskit didn't work well), so I decided to do some tests. Well...that led me to puzzle over what the Conserve MP +2 bit did on the weskit. Well, that led me to realize that in order to see the difference between Conserve MP+2 and regular Conserve MP, some testing would have to be done.
So here's what I did. I equipped my Max MP gear (981 mp without food), which does not equip Black Cloak, and I cast Stoneskin 35 times. I recorded the first 20, did some math, then did another 15. Why stoneskin? Well, it's the largest spell I could cast on myself without another target without having to zone (warp/teleports). I'm sure there's another spell larger, but I was too lazy to figure out which one it was (Protectra II might do it). Here are the results:
First Test:
Starting MP: 981
Ending MP: 409
Total Casts: 20
Theoretical use of MP: 580
Actual use of MP: 572
Total number of times activated: 1 time
Second Test:
Starting MP: 409
Ending MP: 23
Total Casts: 15 (note, theoretically, only 14 are possible with 409 MP)
Theoretical use of MP: 435
Actual use of MP: 386
Total number of times activated: 4 times
Overall:
1015 MP Theoretically Used
958 MP Actually used
Total Casts: 35 (Note, with 981 max MP, only 33 casts are possible)
Total Conserves: 5
% Activation: 14.3%
MP Saved: 57
% MP saved by spell: averaged 37.22%
With conserve MP, I effectively had 6% more MP, going by this test.
The purpose of this test was to determine a control group by which I could compare the effects that the Conserve MP +2 the Igqirra Weskit has have on activation rate / mp saved. I'm 8.5k to lv73, so that may be a while. However, tomorrow, I will run through another 35-70 tests, and see if I can get a more accurate representation of whats going on. 35 casts is a decent testing sample, but I'd be more comfortable with a sample near 100 casts.
