New BLM Igqira/Genie Armor - An Analyzation

Legs: I wish they could have swapped the Igqira hands and leggings, so that you could get magic attack damage on the leggings, but unfortunately this didn't happen. I currently wear a +1 Errant Slops because no other legging armor gives substantial damage.

Carry AF1 pants since they're great for drain/aspel macros. AF2 is also powerful but people rarely got that.

BLMs have too many equipments to cycle through now and 8+ weapon setups. Body alone has standing/sitting/refreshing. Gob bag quest here we come.

As NSXtasy said, theres no way you should give up the 15 elemental magic skill. Either way, you will be resisted more then you were before with the gloves on, the only somewhat suitable gloves are the BLM af2 ones just for magic bursts. I've always hated the BLM's that use astral rings/electrums. What good is a blm with alot of mana, if all of his spells are resisted.
I think the new BLM body piece is also useless except for the magic burst. Me being a hume 75 BLM i dont have the Mana capacity of you tarus out there so the Refresh effect on the Black Cloak seems to help alot. ALso saying that the Errant body piece gives your more mana as you rest, Each "tick" you rest you only get 1 extra mana then you would if you had the cloak equiped. If you dont already have all of the elemental staffs, instead of buying gear with +magic attack bonus, get them. Each staff in accordance with the element adds 10% damage even though im sure you already knew that. I still believe that the errant legs are the best you can get, the 50 MP added is nice but the stats on it arent the greatest. Fenrir's torque is great i think. Either the 30 MP or -3 enmity could help reduce your hate output, or let you cast another spell. For feet i have the AF2 boots so i dont plan on changing anytime from those. As others have said, the Curse effect isn't going to be 100% and its not worth the risk to take the first few hits if the PLD is getting SATA done, 1 slip up by the Thief or paladin and your dead. All of that magic attack bonus isnt exactly a good thing either. The lack of Enmity- gear will be your downfall. With around -5 Enmity, when XPing in Sky off the Golem's, the tank has enough trouble holding hate off magic bursts of 1300+. The BLM will just end up tanking or dead after every fight. I mean i could have just had a bad PLD (loldrew) but i dont think the new gear is worth it in terms of XP parties at all.

The AF1 gloves are nice, but I'd rather have my Zenith Mitts. As my BLM, I only play it in 2 situations, otherwise I play my RDM or SMN.

1) General XP/Merit Points. You fight Golems or Weapons at my level. That's it (or Skeletons at KRT, but I only go there with a cannon PT as BLM). I hardly get resisted by Weapons & Golems and especially very little on skeletons. I have no need for Elemental Magic Skill+ for these mobs. It is like a Dark Knight/Warrior/Samurai with all ACC+ equipment. ACC+ helps and it is stressed for you to get these items. But at 75, you can actually sacrifice this equipment to use other equipment because these mobs (VT to weaker IT) can be hit with relative ease.

2) Gods/HNMs/Tough NMs. Elemental Magic Skill could help here, but the difficulty of these mobs are so high, you will likely get resisted most of the time. Those of you that know me, I'm in one of the popular Japanese Linkshells on my server. My LS has a very high number of Black Mages of all races due to their importance when dealing with HNM/Gods. Each of us play similarly but most of us has different opinions on equipment. Some of us use BLM AF gloves. Others use AF2 gloves. Others use Zenith Mitts. The fact of the matter is, if you fight these mobs, you will likely get resisted no matter what equipment you have. I've compared my damage output to others, especially those with the AF gloves. The outcome is the same. You're either resisted or you're not (and that happens at an even rate). Those of you that are lucky enough to not get resisted? Have fun kiting until your tank can regain the hate that you stole from him.

also im not in any endgame stuff so i dont know how i get resisted on Gods/hnms. ill repost what i think when i get into that kind of things

Well, I guess I have a slightly different view than some of you guys.

During XP partys I stick soley to my Igqira Weskit and Manillas (body and gloves). The extra damage above the Errant gear (INT boosts) the Magic Attack does is worth it to me. I so very very very rarely ever get resisted (only 1 merit point spent on Elemental Skill so far), so the AF1 gloves usually sit in my mog house collecting dust. During HNMs I rarely get resisted either (except Fafnir type Super HNMs). During fights like Serket (wimp) or Roc (wimp) or God Item mobs (mostly wimps) I don't get resists. The Gods on the other hand, as mentioned above, you get resisted no matter what. Last time I fought Genbu I casted, let's say, 30 nukes on him through the course of the fight. Out of those 30~ nukes, I didn't get resisted maybe 5. One well placed Thundaga III earned me an express trip to "Weakened Row" though. That bastard hit me so hard I think I'm still missing some teeth..../sigh. It wasn't just me getting resists though. All the BLMs there were getting nasty resists. Some worse, some less, but most generally the same as me. It was almost humorous. It's really discouraging to see 300+ MP drop from Thundaga III only to get resisted down to 30 damage....ugh.

Anyway, it's my personal belief that during God runs, Elemental Skill is pretyt much useless, as they're so very very far above you to begin with. During HNM runs it's useful, but to an extent. These guys are usually pretty wimpy compared to a fully skilled level 75 BLM, with or without the gear. During XP partys, it's almost useless. The amount of resists I get is just trivial to the extra damage I can dish out with max-damage gear.

Well, I've probably made no sense as this post took me over an hour to write with people coming into my office ever 2 minutes to bug me...so...take it for what you will...

slightly off topic, i'm looking forward to the igqira set myself when i finally hit 73...i'm hoping its not butt ugly, cuz i really like how the black cloak looks. i don't even like how errant looks...anybody have pics of the igqira set?

that said, for the gods, i don't think it matters all too much what you take. if you pump up elemental skill, it might provide you with 1, maybe 2 additional unresisted nukes compared to +magic attack. but since your resisted and unresisted nukes with +magic attack do ~10-15% more, it pretty much evens out.

out of curiosity, how many people actually use the bastokan/republic circlet? it seems like a very nice piece of equipment (particularly on my server, because windurst is almost always in control of tu'lia).

I have both the body and the hand piece of iggira. Unresisted ThundergaIII with HQ Thunder staff and morion earing it roughly does about 60 more damage than using my errant body and gloves. Of course, the difference is... most of the time when I use Iggira the mob is chasing me for a while... -5 enmity itself is a pretty big loss

I got a Weskit for myself today. Its the only Igquira piece I wear. The 6 bonus is very nice; its like turning any regular staff into an HQ one (and then some). And if you already have an HQ staff... that just really rocks. I lose only 3 enmity from the body, I still have AF hat, errant pants, af gloves/af2 gloves, and healers earring for a total of 9 (10 when mbing) - enmity. Thats pretty good, and I wont die so much when nuking.

that doesn't quite agree with oompa's anecdote about getting a 1/10th resist on a thundaga III spell vs genbu though . well, whatever...you all have experienced much more in the game than i have, i'll find out myself soon enough.

In theory, Genbu is weak to ice, however in application, he's weaker to thunder. To understand the how Gods work, you really need to fight them once or twice. The crappy part about Genbu is his unbevlievable defense. Melee hit him for 10 or less, and I've even seen a 300TP Spiral Hell do 46 damage to him. Magic attacks against him are much the same, and very frustrating. He's not someone you need to stagger your nukes for fear of overnuking. He's someone you generally go all out on UNTIL you get a full nuke, then you rest. The most damage I've ever done to Genbu in any one nuke is 946 with Thundaga III and full Magic Attack gear. That's the one that got me put in Weakened Row.

Genbu just has disgusting defense, both physical and magical. He sucks...But he's a fairly easy kill

Personally i agree with nsx, i wouldnt ever give up my elemental skill. I havent tried any peices yet but the only one i would want is the weskit. my current set up:

Ele staves, ele torque, errant body/black cloak, af1 gloves, errant legs etc for EXP pts (saving for zenith mitts)

for HNMs i stick with the same gear (roc,serket etc.)

but for the baddies(Gods etc.) i go all out elemental skill, druid slops, af gloves, black cloak (hopefully demons soon) etc.

Man... I've been staring... and staring at the Weskit for weeks now. As I said before, I refuse to pay more than 600K for it right now. As I type, there are 5 on sale, the last sale price being 650K. As for the talons, there are 6 of them up for sale at 700K each. The recipe is *so easy*! It's hard to believe that the 'expensive item' that was once 30K on my server is now 700K alone (Dragon Talon).

I still think the Weskit is better than the Errant Houppelande because it provides a bit of everything that a Black Mage needs (Conserve MP, Elemental Magic Skill, and Magic Attack Bonus). The lack of -Enmity doesn't really worry me, as all of you who hunt Gods know that we generally do the most damage. So if we make a good solid hit with a spell, it's time to run for your life. I remember the last time I busted Kirin with a solid spell, I got a Deadly Hold on my face and I was on the ground a second later.

Again... I want the Weskit very badly... I just can't justify the insane price for the stats. The BLM AF2 Body is... well, just a matter of opinion. You have the same Elemental Magic Skill +5, but you sacrifice the Refresh effect for Conserve MP and Magic Attack. In the end though, if I had a chance to have both, I'd probably take both. I need better BLM gear I'm tired of staring at my Errant H. and looking like every Bard/SMN/BLM/WHM/RDM on my server.
