Is it a good investment for a BLM (though not a large investment: 8k-10k on Ifrit last time I checked). And if it is that good, how long should it be worn for and what piece should replace it?

Note: I have obtained my RSE Savage Loincloth and don't relish going and doing another RSE quest for something that just adds HP (as the mithran RSE top does).

    Honestly, no.

I bought it back when my Blm was that level just to have new equipment... but soon sold it back for my old tunic.

So what would you recommend I replace it with? I'm currently level 32 and don't mind waiting a few levels for a new tunic, it's just I haven't noticed anything spectacular about it and would like something more useful...

        I used the Black Tunic(Lv 20, +1 int) till level 34 where I switched it out for a plain Cloak(Lv 34) just because I wanted a change.

At level 40 you can get Combat Caster's Cloak and that will take you all the way till Tactician Magician equipment (Lv 50 gear).

        Hope that helped. ^^

I used Royal Footman Tunic (Lv 10, +1 INT&AGI) until 33 then switched to Erudite Headband (lv 14, +1 INT, +3 Evasion) and Frost Robe (lv 33, +6MP).

I find it more benificial, not to mention a lot better looking for mithras.

Although I'd make sure I got all the spells I need before investing on gears.

I just skipped the combat caster set and went directly for the tactician magician set at 50.

Beside adding the same amount of INT with a erudite headband, which I had had for a long time, it adds, rather then takes away MND.

But all rationalization aside, I just though the combat caster set is butt-ugly.

                  I used a San D' Orian Tunic from 15 - 38, then switched to Mage's Robe + Erudite's Headband.

I broke down and bought the HQ Black Tunic, the Mage's Tunic at lvl 20. It has been a sound investment because i haven't taken it off yet, not much can beat the +2 INT until my AF.
