  • Is this how it's going to go?

Once I reach high 40's or 50s on up to 75,
I've heard you get one or two new spells per level, which is cool,

but do I basically level up, and then spend time farming for the next spell?

Also much appreciated would be basically a sum of how much spells might cost, in a range. Not including ancient magic.

Like say "Okay well, from 60-65, basically each spell will be 42k"

Spells vary in price from server to server, and unless their store bought (set price) the best way to tell for yourself about general costs is to just look it up on the AH.

For the most part spells become much more cheap after lvl 50, but of course there are exceptions like Flare,Sleepga II, and Waterga III, because spells become monster drops rather then store bought.

      Fuk it, Cut the cord...

assuming it's not a weird spell or an ancient magic spells

would you say spells average in the 10's of thousands, or the hundreds of thousands?

cuz if i have to spend 200k or more per level it's gonna be a loooooooootttt of farmin

if you don't count in some of the ancients the spells are cheap up to the 50's (don't know after that). you can buy most of the spells from vendors, that's why they aren't that expensive, i'd say some are 10's of thousands PER spell and the really cheap ones are only some thousand gil, cant remember exactly though .

then again you will want all ancient magic spells and some of these can and will be 100k or more (quake for example) plus the gear you want at these lvl's (at least 2 elemental staves, +3 int rings, justaucorps +1 at 58, etc) will be much more expensive than the spells.

no matter what job you lvl, you will always spend a lot of time farming if you want decent or good equipment and... it's still cheaper than nin or rng

Ok as long as I don't have to pay like over 100k for any of these normal spells I'm fine and can afford em without basically doing anything....

As for the ancient spells and staves which I do want, I can farm for those.....

post 50, i haven't paid more than 10k for any spell other than sleepga II (don't have quake and didn't buy flare). aeroga II and flood both cost me 10k while every III spell cost me 3-5k, including the -gas. the only spell right now that costs quite a bit is water IV, which runs at 200k.

edit: as it turns out, you might find that you won't have to buy many of these spells. many, many of them dropped while i was leveling/key hunting/questing, whatever. unfortunately since i already had the spells (many are rare) in my safe, i couldn't lot on them so they went to my party members and probably up onto the AH.

All of the III series spells on midgardsormr range from 5-10k at most. Most of them drop off leveling mobs, so they tend to be ridiculously cheap. The IV line of spells are similiarly priced, although slightly higher (12k being the highest, average around 9k). The III line of -ga spells are all 5k or less on midgardsormr.

The only expensive spells from ~50ish to lv75 are Water IV (80-120k on midgardsormr), Flare (250-300k and falling (was 1 million plus less than a month ago)), Sleepga II (200k and steady), and I think Stonega II (or was it aeroga II? I forget, but one of the II or III -ga's is abnormally expensive).

To get you from 50ish to 75, spells will run you probably a grand total of 60-80k not including the odd-ball spells. The good thing is, the odd ball spells you can get from other places than AH fairly easily. I got Water IV while trying to get a testimony off Sapphire Quadovs, the expensive -ga off some mob that I forget, you can quest for sleepga II (although the quest is ridiculously hard to do and I still haven't even been able to accept it (I bought it at lv60)), and flare drops off million eyes. The way to get flare is to help your favorite Ranger, Dark, Monk, Ninja, etc. get an Optical Hat - one of the mobs they have to kill is a million eyes...and with the difficulty of the optical hat mob, I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you got to keep Flare.

After lv50ish, spells are no longer the expensive part of being a blm. That's when you shift focus off getting spells (as they're so cheap that you should have them well in advance...I had all my III's from the time that I bought Stone III and saw how cheap the rest were), and onto getting better gear. lv50+ gives you access to the elemental staves, JSE, torques, another tathlum, new rings, waist items, etc.
                For The Horde!!
Current Gil total spent on gear:
                3,235,000
                Current Gil Value of gear:
                1,151,000
Laughing when new players complain about prices:
                Priceless

i believe its stonega II that is ridiculously expensive. its not all that great, but on my server it ranges from 50-100k. steady @ 50k now, i got mine off of an orcish hexspinner. i've killed a whole lot of sapphires and still no water IV...there has to be a reason why that spell is so expensive, right?

Yeah atrapos it is Stonega II, on Seraph it is about 80k. Which is a bit high considering that most of the spells are cheaper. For some reason Seraph's prices stay at a decent range, probably because not as many people as Midgar, and other servers.

As far as Ancient Magic, I believe most of them are 30-80k.

I know Freeze is like 4-6k, and Burst is like 10k.

I know flare costs an Arm and Leg, even on Seraph it's like 120k.
