It may not be worth it at level 10-20. First of all the melees don't have a wide arrange of ws. Therefore they won't always make a skillchain that the monster is weak to. However knowing how to do it and getting some practice makes you a better blm. By the time you get version 2 spells.. i.e. Stone II, water II, etc. you should know how to mb.

For your example to do a fusion magic burst you would cast a Fire or Light spell when the fusion effect is on the screen or when you see the word Fusion. This is all you need to know for now, later on you may have to cast earlier for those spells with longer timers.

    Magic Bursts

Just like a weapon skill, you can use these types of magic after seeing the message

    Fire - Liquefacation and Fusion
    Light - Tranfixion and Fusion

    Wind - Detonation and Fragmentation
    Lightning - Impactation and Fragmentation

    Earth - Scission and Gravitation
    Dark - Compression and Gravitation

    Water - Reverbation and Distortion
    Ice - Induration and Distortion

So if the Blm is spamming spells it will be just the regular awesome damage that blm does..
however if the mage casts a fire spell after Liquefacation or Fusion then he will do more damage.

But it does not have to be a damage spell!
Any spell that hits a enemy will work.
Take enfeebling for example.. Poison is a water spell. Bind is a Ice spell. Cast either after a Distortion and it will have greater accuracy and may stick longer.

Fusion, Fragmentation, Gravitation and Distortion are 2 different elements so they have more spells that can cause a magic Burst.

With a Weaponskill or Magic Burst it will also mention the extra amount of damage dealt.
Pick a skillchain that the enemy is weak to and take a chunk out of the enemies health. This allows for shorter battled, which provide for faster battles and more exp per hour.
    Galka Cor 75/Rng 37 Bst 75/Nin 37 Blm 75/Whm 38
    Taru Rdm 61 / Blm 41 *retired*
    Mithra - Rdm 53, Pld 45, Blm 38, War 23, whm 36 *retired*

          Mb timing.

For tier 1 spells (like stone, fire and so on)

Cast when you see the renkei graphic...
Example: Tachi: Enpi > Hard Slash
When you see large bluegreenish swirls around the mob, start casting.

For tier 1 -ga spells (stonega, blizzaga)

Cast when you see the weapon skill you are bursting after.
Example: Double Thrust > Fast Blade. Burst Blizzaga
When you see fast blade being executed, start casting.

For Tier II spells (Fire II, Blizzard II)

Cast just before the weapon skill you are bursting after.
Example: Red Lotus Blade > Raging Fists. Burst Fire II
When you see "Teika readies Raging Fists", start casting.

          You get the idea. When you get a higher tier spell, you move the cast start back a few seconds. Following these guidelines, you shouldn't miss any MBs, and if you're going rdm, you'll have the timing down by the time fast cast starts messing it up -_-;

Later on, you'll train the timing down, so the spell lands shortly after the renkei graphic is done. This way, you can burst twice.

Example: Skewer > Vorpal Blade (Distortion) > Hexastrike (Fusion)

Start casting Water II just before vorpal blade fires, then you should land the MB on distortion... As soon as Water II is casted, MASH your fire II macro. Hexa comes up, and fusion kicks in, you'll land this one a little later than the first one, but within the window still.

Good luck, and happy MBing. While ppl say it's not worth it when they are in valkurm dunes, bursting for 230 dmg instead of 170 around level 55 with simple RDM spells is easy free dmg.
Esp barring resists you get on normal nukes.

          It's worth training for.
