Is DRK MB worth it?

I was in a party where a DRK and I (MNK) were skillchiaining. We set it up so that he would start and I would finish. After I finish my WS, he would MB with AIR (forgot what effect it was, but the MB was AIR).

I am not too sure if the MB was worth the bother. We were 38-40, and he had only Aero I (not Aero II). Not sure what your impressions are about DRK MB.

I for one was thinking of switching to DRK BECAUSE of MB! It gives a DRK so much more to do...

Swift Blade > Cross Reaper MB Drain = good

MB Fire for 42 dmg, or Aero for 35 dmg, and then bugging the rdm in the party for Refresh = bad

agreed, unless the drk has +int gear :confused: and is taru, MB'ing drain seems like the only thing worth bursting.

My most recent MB story:

Lv50-51 group in Garlaige Citadel killing Chamber Beetles

Vorpal Scythe > Viper Bite = Distortion

Zafron's Water II MB = 15 dmg

BLM's Freeze MB = 1178 dmg

mob dies.

BLM pats Zafron consolingly.

Silly DRK... don't burst water spells on beetles. I dunno, in this one party I had a Hume DRK who was bursting better than our Hume RDM. Might not be worth it MP wise since DRK don't get Ballad or Refresh much, but if you have cooking skill to make juice...

DRKs do have higher elemental magic skill than RDMs, but DRK's have such low int nad so little mp, and the spells they have are such low level...

I personally think the only spells a DRK should use are stun, drain, aspir, and maybe absorb-str/agi

Hume DRK have the same Int as Hume RDM...

my cooking is at 77. I use pineapple juice when i xp so i am always in a constant state of refresh. Despite this fact my absorb spells monopolize my mp to the point where the only time i can ever MB is when aspir nets me more than 14 mp. If i get the extra mp from Aspir I will MB(even if its crappy), if not i leave the nuking to the BLM.

I did group with a taru DRK/BLM once who would Absrob-INT before he MBed. On the same spell he would out-dmg the BLM, but the thing is while he was MBing Blizzard, the BLMs were MBing Blizzard II, so in the end the DRK still came up pretty short.

the point of the DRK (to my understanding) is to use spells to MB to do more dmg that they would normally do with just meleeing... it doesn't have to be even close to a BLMs MB for that, only about 1/3 of a BLM's MB. And also to use the Absorb line of spells to increase overall melee or spell dmg by both himself and the whole party

and also, if the DRK did only 15 with a Water II MB, then 1) it was resisted, and 2) his elemental skill was way too low... and i don't know if beetles are strong against water or not
