  • Magic Burst

Hi i searched the forum but couldn't find any info on Magic Bursts, i figured you guys would be the masters at this.

I'm just a humble lv 27 RDM/BLM and was wondering how Magic Bursts are achieved, since i cant renkei in the sence of using TP (since i don't get to hit enough).

Any info would be most appreciated.

    Thanks

the idea of a magic burst (or MB) is to increase the damage of your spell and decrease the chances of a resist. you want your spell to cast after the skillchain effects dissipate. you have approximately 2 seconds after the effect for mid-chains and up to about 4 seconds after an end chain. the end chain is the last skillchain effect in the skillchain and mid-chains are the skillchains in the middle of skillchains. simple eh? here's an example

fast blade > burning blade > combo
fast blade + burning blade = liquefaction (mid-chain)
burning blade + combo = fusion (end chain)

so in this example, after liquefaction, your spell should land after the effects disappear and before the next weapon skill begins (about a 2 second time frame), however after fusion, you have approximately 4 seconds to land your spell for an MB.

when to begin casting your spell depends on the spell. if its a fast casting spell like stone, you'll want to wait til during or after the effects to begin the cast, since it has a very low cast time. however, the cast time varies greatly for spells. some spells, like ancients, must be cast well before the first weapon skill to properly burst.

as to which spells are used to burst, it depends on the skillchain.

      lvl 1
      liquefaction - fire
      scission - earth
      induration - ice
      impaction - thunder
      detonation - wind
      reverberation - water
      transfixion - light
      compression - dark

      lvl 2
      distortion - ice or water
      fragmentation - wind or thunder
      fusion - fire or light
      gravitation - dark or earth

      lvl3
light - wind, thunder, fire, or light
dark - ice, water, earth, or dark

IMO, renkei and magic burst is not a one person job, but a team effort, so I'd work it out with my team first.

Usually, our set up is 2 2-person chains. each chain participant would set up a macro to report TP%. The chain starter would have a call in that macro to request others to display their TP. Once the chain starter makes sure that everyone has over 100%, he lets off another macro, with a different call, this initiates the chain. At this point, I prepare myself for for the magic burst and start focusing on watching the message window for the "xxx readies oooo" message.

Some of us use a dual shock 2 controller (attached to a PC), so the calls would give both a audio singnal and vibration.

Also one thing I found helpful is to filter out messages not related to my duties. So you see the messages for timing alot better. I filter out all non-party battle messages, and party attack, miss, and damage. I can figure that out from the monster's HP bar anyways.
