  • Any experienced mithra rdm/blm's on this board?

Hi, I'm pretty new to FFXI.

I chose mithra since I like their style, plus they seem pretty versatile. My current job is blm (10) and my short-term goal is to get to 18, open up the sub-job option, and then switch to rdm/blm.

So far I love playing as blm, especially now that I pt when I play. Soloing to level 10 from level 8 on was not at all easy, though it was instructive.

Really, all I want to know is, what sort of strategies do and did you high level mithras use to compensate for the areas they're not as strong as taru's in (mp and int), plus any other general mithra rdm/blm advice. I already use as much as +int gear as I can get my paws on, but I mean more like in-battle strategies and such.

Thank-you, in advance, for your thoughts on this.

First thing u have to realize race doesn't really matter to be a good blm (or any job in fact) - it's all about how well u play. Yes, mithra has less base mana and int, but it doesn't mean anything as long as you know what you doing. This is especially true for later stage of the game. For example, don't miss a MB (magic burst) and balance your mana wiht the other mages in your PT. If you always nuke the mob using random spells instead of going against their weakness, those 100extra mana (racial differecen) won't do you or the team any good.

In fact, I've pt-ed with lots of mithra, elv and even galka mages and most of them are actually better than other races in some sense that they are more efficient in terms of mana usage cuz of their racial difference, and I truly enjoyed playing with them.

Anyway, just don't feel inferior cuz of your race, it all depends on how you do your job!

Isn't it true though that if an extremely skilled galka BLM with high mana efficiency and powerful equips still be at a loss when compared with an equally efficient and skilled taru due to having half the MP? just because tarus have enormous mp to be wasting doesn't mean they should or are wasting it at all.

My advice is at high levels, people will tend to be a bit racist, so stick it out. if you ask specific questions ingame to your party before fights so you can work out how to be most efficient, you can develop skill quickly, get a good reputation, and it will follow you. you're not really disadvantaged by picking a mithra, you just need to work harder on being a skilled player than the taru players do. Arm yourself with knowledge.
And i say to myself, i need exact change!

Get this straight, tarus will always outpower you when it comes to being a BLM, even the shoddily-equipped n00bs who don't eat food and have underlevelled subjobs. Simple fact...tarus were built to be mages, especially a BLM. Mithra and hume are a solid second place for BLM.

But that should never stop you from playing Mithra BLM. You seem to be on the right track, just keep at it and play smart. For example, never miss that magic burst, use the right elements, don't nuke unnecessarily, and never spam your nukes unless you NEED to.

If you play right, have the most mp and int equipment possible, keep your subjob levelled, eat mage food (like apple pies), then you will gain a reputation for being a great BLM, regardless of the fact that you're not a little munchkin bursting with MP and int.

The other huge advantage of being a mithra, is a high amount of character potential. You can switch to almost any other job and do well at it, even excel (RNG, NIN, THF, DRK, DRG come to mind). Mithra, along with Hume, are the best generalists in the game, and probably the best starting races because of the flexibility to be any job you wish to become and not be overly gimped for that job (ie. Galka is overly gimped for mage, Taru are overly gimped for warrior).
I still do not have Barblind.

I am a Galka Mage, and trust me play'n as a Mithra will not be bad at all. My LS has 2 Mithra rdm/blm and they both do quite well. Once you get to the lvl to do it put in the time to get your RSE, (Racial Specific Equipment) You will go just fine. Just play smart and you will be just fine. And don't hate the Galka mages.
I don't think people show favor to a specific race at all. Just about the only people that say that are Taru. I get Invites while Taru are seeking PT right beside me. My int is not higher and i have allot les mana but you know what i get the job done don't over nuke, i have my subjob up to level, and i can conserve mana.
The sad thing is while Taru are "made to be a blm" most use that to gimp themselves, and be damed lazy and not lvl there subjob
and generaly play like a 13y/o moron. Ok i have rambled enough
just keep your head up and play smart.
Keeping up with good gear and spells
          3 or 4 million gil
          Being a Galka BLM PRICELESS

I don't know why you asked about rdm/blm in the blm board and not the rdm board ... anyway:

Taru mages are so much more superior than any other job (player skill, equip being equal). I currently have about 700 mp; a same-job same-equip taru would have about 900. That's almost 30% more mp to play with over the 'second best' mage race.

Having said that, rdm is the mage job least affected by max mp; as long as you're not unnecessarily spamming nukes or fighting stuff too hard for you (thus wasting mp on repeated enfeebles), you should have no problems mp-wise.

Bleh, tarus get squished far too easily. Imho, mithra is a better race than taru in every situation where you think you might take a hit or two...and blm falls into that category. Being a taru mage requires a lot of faith in your teammates. I don't think I'd play a taru outside of a set PT of people I knew really well, heh. Getting killed when you're just trying to do your job is very annoying.
