  • Taru BLM just starting.. having trouble

    Hi everyone

I have a few questions, is it best to choose BLM to start or should I go WHM and then start BLM later and I am having a lot of trouble leveling. When do BLM's get spells and if they get them at level 1, how?

Thanks and if you have any advice for a starting out BLM I could use it.

My friend who's a white mage main, is now leveling up his black mage sub. He says that leveling with his black mage is so much easier than whitemage because black mages destroy things with their powerful blackmagic spells.

I think that white mages will die less because cure will save them so many times but black mages kill things much faster nonetheless. As a starting blackmage I had much trouble leveling my black mage because I died a countless number of times.

I'd say don't wait on playing this game and just start out with one or the other you really can't go wrong with both, because both have their tough challenges to overcome.

Well BLM has a disadvantage right away over WHM. WHM are more looked for than BLM are. As you progress in the game, WHM become more and more necessary. BLM do have their moments as well (such as HNM battles as i have been told). As for your magic, you buy scrolls or find them on fiends to learn spells. You have certain lvl requirements for each spell that have to be met before you can learn them. Stone should be the first spell you get beings its lvl 1 spell. Just look for a magic shop in your nation.

As far as whitemages being sought out more than blackmages that's very true. But then again whitemages are sought out more than any job. When I first hit lvl 12, I wasn't getting too many invites but boy did that change once I was in Qufim at lvl 20. I felt so good *yay* hehehe. I thought I was being neglected but people wanted me =)

And yes you'll see why people will want you at later levels, you're going to be doing some really really nice damage.

If you start out as BLM, you are at risk of dying quite easily because after the Bind wears off, your spell casting will get interrupted when you get hit by the monster. If you have WHM sub, you can paralyze the monster and blind them so they can't attack you as much, allowing you to cast your attack spells properly.

Its possible to go both ways, once you get your BLM to party level, you won't get hit much, if your party is good, but you will have to go back to level your WHM sub anyway to compliment your BLM. If you level your WHM to 18 first to get sub job, you would have saved yourself the frustration of dying all the time and then level your BLM all the way once you get the sub job option.

BLM/WHM - you can cure yourself from level 1.

WHM/BLM - no real advantage other than having more MP.
