Try killing more monsters that are easy prey, rather than fewer that are decent challenge or even match. If you can hook up with a white mage at the same level, that would help too.

Also, remember to use your staff in addition to spells... I'm seeing some BLMs on Phoenix who are not melee attacking, just casting. Or they are only going into Attack mode after the monster runs up to them... don't let them get free hits.

Dont get me started on Black Mages ><"""

They are IMPOSSIBLE to solo after lv. 6 and when you DO find a PT you get NO EXP and die a whole lot. I think I would be at lv. 17 if I didn't die at all. As soon as you start to cast your first spell the monsters go after you like a 25 cent hooker. I got to Lv. 9 as a Black Mage and I stopped for a while.... it just wasn't fun anymore.......

I dunno, i don't really have that problem with BLM... sure i die occasionally when i solo.. but with a party? all i need is a single fighter to distract the monster.. the fighter could be half my level for all i care. If you have a FTR partner who's good with taunting, you shouldn't even get touched... as far as soloing with BLM... Blind and Bind baby! If they can't move, you can get off at least a spell or two until they can even fight back.. and then if they're blnded, they tend to miss enough that melee/spell timing can get you the rest of the way...

As far as i see it, (and this may just be me) I seem to get better xp when i solo, at least at the level i'm at... I get a party when i'm not in the mood to rest after battles. I havn't had any trouble finding parties either... oh maybe i'm just lucky? i dunno...

Well, best of luck to ya'all!

Yeah, I never have an problems killing anything with my BLM. I'm well beyond lv. 6 and I'm still killing decent challenge monsters like it's nothing. I get anywere from 50-92 exp a kill solo. As far as parties I'm getting between 30-110 exp a kill.

If you are having that much trouble I'd check to see what the major problem you are having in the combat. Is the monster easily canceling your spells? Or are you just losing hp WAY to fast?

Might need to look into getting better armor and maybe focus on stuff that really pushes your INT up. Also getting your magic skill up so it doesn't get cancelled to easily.

Blm is easiest to solo with if you know what your doing. At low levels, you will absolutely OWN all crab-type enemys once you get your fire magic. Besides that, you can still solo pretty good. Bind, Blind + poison are priceless at low levels. Bind the sucker so he cant move, blind em so he can barely hit you and poison him to whittle down his hp. Then just nuke away, maybe even use a staff a little to conserve mp

that is alot of effects. I didn't even know you could pile everything up like that. Wouldn't a black mage need a partner to level with though cause it just can't out run everything and later monsters tend to get to you before you can finish chanting.

Thats why you cast bind first, then you nuke it till the bind runs out, then you finish it off by using your staff. Very effective at low levels

                    Skills

For blind and bind. MAX YOUR ENFEEBLEMENT MAGIC skill.

I cannot stress this enough. The duration of bind and chance to stick for blind work directly off of this skill. The higher it is the longer your bind will hold.

When I first got bind it wouldn't hold for more than 5-8 seconds. Now that my enfeeblement skill is maxed for my lvl (36), my binds hold up for over 20 seconds. They very rarely break early anymore.

Also at lvl 10 I highly suggest picking up blaze spikes. Even if it costs you over 3k gil in the auction. Invaluable spell. Its free dmg for soloing and has saved by bacon numerous times.

As for the amount of dying we do seem to draw. Be sure to pick your enemies carefully and never EVER go into a fight unless you are full health and full mana.

Remember what spells work better and don't just mindlessly cycle through your DDs. Some magic is less resisted according to which monster your fighting. Take this into account.

I cannot emphasize how much of a life saver Drain is in a fight get it early and make use of it in every fight. Also choose opponents that are vulnerable to the elements you have and things will go a lot smoother.

blm cant really solo efficently because no matter what you will always use mp and always have to heal after fight this mean their is alot of downtime, and spells is alot...

-_- You have no idea what your talking about. When a War solo's, they will have to rest just as long if not longer to regen their HP. And MP refresh's faster then HP

yes that is true but wars does not take same damage all the time but no matter what you will use mp, you cant even run around and kill easy prey efficently

On the contrary, I think BLM have the easiest time soloing up through about level 13. If you're anywhere near Windurst at that point, the Maze of Shakrami then becomes your personal playground.

BLM deal more damage than any other character, so basically its a race to see if you can kill the monster before it can kill you. If you're casting your spells right, you should almost always win that race as long as you aren't doing silly things like attacking stuff that's Tough to you.

As mentioned above, making use of your staff attacks, as well as correct spell timing, makes a solo BLM a force to be reckoned with at early levels.
