  • Blm Macros

    I have two macroing questions:
    1. Do you have a quickbar for macros like DAOC, do you have some boxes to put macros in like EQ or do you have to bind them to keys on the keyboard?

    2. What macros do I use through my career as a blm?

    2. Oh and if anyone could tell me about that magic burst thing too and how to use it and stuff then all my questions for now would be answered.

Hope I can help answer your questions. Long post, my apologies.

    1) There are at 10 sets of 20 macros each available in FFXI. You activate a macro using one of the 2 macro buttons, ALT and CTRL, and a number key on the keyboard (this is for PC users, which it sounds like you are). Each macro is numbered - you have ALT macros 1 through 0 and CTRL macros 1 through 0. You can pop up a box displaying the current active macro set by holding down either ALT or CTRL. Only 1 macro set can be active at a time, but you can switch sets easily by pressing ALT or CTRL and the Up or Down keys. You set up macros using the Macro menu in the main game menu, and each macro can contain up to six command lines.

    2) As a BLM I macro'd my direct damage spells (Fire, Aero, etc), some support spells (Bind, Sleep, Aspire, etc), and my Elemental Seal job ability. And, being a Taru, I had a dance macro of course.

I also had a whole lot of stuff macro'd for my white mage subjob. I had CTRL and ALT 1-6 set up to be Cure and Cure2 macros for me (1) and each member of the party (2-6). Then add in support spells that WHMs have along with the BLM support spells... it was a full set, and it worked really well. (There are other ways to set up Curing macros so they don't take up 12 slots, by the way - I just liked this method).

Each line of a macro is a / command. Examples are /ma "Thunder" <t>, which would cast Thunder on your currently selected target, and /ja "Elemental Seal" , which will use the BLM's 10-minute ability. If you need more info on the commands you can use in macros, you should be able to find them on this board.

    3) <switching topics> Magic Burst is when a BLM casts a spell right after a Skillchain (Renkei) weapon skill combo. You have to cast a spell that is related to the element of the skillchain. For instance, you use Fire to magic burst off of a Fusion skillchain. The timing has to be pretty exact, but it's worth it because you'll get some nice bonus damage from the spell. If you want more info, there are a couple of great threads on this board with more details on MBs.

i was using <t> in my macros till last night when someone in my pt accidentally cast on the bats in korroloka. my pt members then mentioned the <bt> command. it refers to battle target so can help prevent me from making such a mistake. granted you're most likely going to be targeting the monster your pt in fighting to moniter it's hp. and you can't use this for pulling or reserving monsters but it seems safer somehow... you can always make a special dea or poison macro for pulling anyway. good luck with blm.
