Do BLMs deal the most damage out of all the jobs?

No, but I believe they deal the second most with ancient black magic. Rangers deal the best damage.

What aspect of the ranger helps give it the reputation of best damage dealer? There arrows? And i have no clue how arrows could be any better then pure ice, fire, thunder, etc. not bashing the class, jus curious...lol

From what I've seen, rangers' bow weapon skills are very powerful, especially combined with their active abilities. Thieves using sneak attack do huge damage as well, and along with trick attack can avoid getting hate -- and can in fact transfer hate to a tank instead. Thieves at around level 34 can do 250+ plus damage in one hit.

Black mages can do consistent, sustained high damage as long as their MP lasts. And by choosing lower-level spells, they can do less damage per spell but over a much longer time (and still averaging more damage than melees).

I wonder where samurais fit in damage-wise. They can do lots of weapon skills during each fight, so their damage must be pretty high.

Yep, they can do about 250 plus renkei damage which should be around 400-500. Rangers on the other hand..can deal alot more. I'm a level 8 ranger and can do 32 damage and my 2hour does 166 . But both are fun ^_^ RNG's are expensive though.
