Re: Riverne - Site A01
Soloed here from 40-42. Stuck to the first little area and the section beyond the first Spatial Displacement.
Mobs to Charm: Riverne Vultures and Hawkertraps, both of which con DC to T. The traps are very resistant to charm, so if you must charm one, go for a DC one, you'll find their damage is still quite suitable.
Mobs to fight: Hippogryphs and Firedrakes. Gryphs con EM to T, drakes T. Vultures hold thier own on Hippos rather well and Gryphs count as birds so Bird Killer will sometimes help out when you have some hate.
Both target mobs have a dispel ability, so if you want to keep your Reraise effects, I'd strongly suggest a /NIN sub as shadows and food stack ahead of RR. Another reason to go /NIN is Gryphs have an Engravity effect on thier attacks and it lasts.
I semi-kited both types of mobs, though not always on the Gryphs if I had an EM charmed. When EM Vultures weren't available, I used Ts and kited Hippos back and forth between a couple Vulture mobs. Was able to hit chain 3 and 4 up here, getting about 2.5-3k an hour.
I'd also strongly suggest taking out all Gryphs if you choose to use birds and traps against each other. If you want to go deeper into the zone to fight drakes, keep in mind Gryphs are true sight and cannot be charmed.
Gryphs drop their tailfeathers somewhat frequently, I was able to make a decent amount of gil off the run. They're bazaar/trade-only, but since they're needed to make items for the Riverne Site B 50 cap BCNM, they fetch a decent price. Due to the status attacks, people generally don't like to fight them Giant scales from drakes are trade only, so those are a hard sell. Keep em for friends who need to navigate these areas for CoPs or just toss them.
Biggest Con about this area would be for any BST who didn't have axe skilled ahead via another job. Once you hit 41 in this area, you can't cap your axe beyond what you skilled it to at 40. So if you plan to stick around here til 42, plan to catch up your axe a little later.
EXP starts to wane at 42, so move on after.Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten; 10-07-2006, 09:55 AM.

Re: Riverne - Site A01
i'de suggest charming birds and fighting birds & hippos since wyverns tends to wipe more than one pet not counting Radiant breathe(DMG+Silence+Slow), Paralyzga and Dispelga.
you can /NIN safly here, fight with your DC or EM pet once the prey is at 90-85% HP and you'll be fine hitting Chain#4 easly.
careful from Hippo's "Boost" Ability, it's alot of attack bonus (dealt about 180DMg on one of my birds) so /NIN is great here.
respawn is great, and the spawn area for the first displacement's mobs is almost the whole displacement. you can also charm pets from the first displacement and travel to the second.
Traps are easy, but again... paralyzga isn't good at all when you are /NIN.
edit:
Wyvern's deadly drive did over 230DMG on EM birds too o.0

I really only went after wyverns at all because I got CoPs coming up for my mithra, so I wanted to farm scales in advance for the group. Wyverns did usually take two or three mobs to kill, so yeah, not efficent for EXP chains at all, but fun as hell, I usually let the pet do the work on most of them to avoid Radiant Breath. I mainly went after Hippos and birds, leaving traps alone.

Re: Riverne - Site A01
I came here last night just to try and farm some Giant Scales off of Firedrakes (like bbq, I was trying to prepare for an upcoming CoP mission).
I tried it as /WHM at first. Firedrakes killed me twice. Blink just isn't good enough, since it doesn't stop the mobs attack 100% of the time. And the pets on hand just don't hold up long enough to rest back that MP anyway. You really don't have the luxury of resting against these guys. The moment you send your pet against them, you need to go running to find your next pet.
After switching to /NIN, I was able to solo Firedrakes successfully. I usually started off with a DC Trap (since it usually took 2 or 3 attempts to charm them), and tried to mix in EM/T Birds (Ts held up much better than EMs). If I was desparate for a pet during a swap, I had to resort to either a jug pet, or using Tame on a Trap (you're not likely to survive more than one mischarm during a pet swap).
I initially tried releasing my current pet at low health, but I ended up just letting it die after the first fight. Tail Crush gives Poison to the target, and it was enough to kill some of my pets even after I released them.
If you come here to exp, I strongly suggest staying away from the Firedrakes. They'll chew through whatever decent pets you have on hand, and I don't see the exp you get from them being good enough. Hippogryphs are easy enough, if you need more prey than just the birds and traps.
If you want to farm Giant Scales on your own, it's quite doable. It's not a 100% drop. But out of 3 Firedrakes I managed to kill, I got 2 Giant Scales.Lyonheart

Re: Riverne - Site A01
Viability of this camp now rides on today's updates for CoP (item changes), RMT in Titan invaded Riverne #B01 to start exploiting the fact these BCNM items will auctionable
But then, #A01 is a bit more threatening overall since the cap is lower than #B01, so we'll see. I realize #A01 has become a merit camp of sorts for BST so hopefully the changes won't damage its viability or if it does, that the impact of the changes will die down in time.
