Re: Bibiki Bay*

Redhobbit @ Titan, Purgonorgo Island
"This post is about Puro... Island. First, this zone is very irritating to get to. You have to go to Bibiki Bay (which isn't exactly close to anything) and then take the Manaclipper which seems to only run out to the island every 25 minutes or so. At least Bibiki Bay is a fairly nice place to have to wait. The boat ride doesn't seem to be anything to worry about. I had a clot (DC) and one other mob (EP) on both my trips. The mobs seem to not paying any attention to people on the end of the outrunners of the boat (the part that sticks out that you get on onto). The island itself it very beautiful, so if you want decent xp in a pleasant environment, this is a great place to come.
I came here at 37, died fairly quickly and came back at 38 because I was tired of wandering around SSG (I wasn't happy with the mobs in the loop at level 38 because of a lack of high enough level prey).
First rule, do NOT attack the Kraken. I was at the east beach at 37 and had 2 EM Jagils. I saw a tough Kraken and thought "wonder how hard this guy is". I'd heard here that he hits hard, so I sent a Uru... (one of the shell things) at it first to soften it up. It ate it up so fast I didn't even get a tick of MP before I was getting up to get ready with the next pet. It hit the Jagils so hard that they weren't healed in time to cycle. I also had a couple of mischarms and a failed tame in the mix and I died. I'd had enough and a raise seemed unlikely so I homepointed. The kraken hits for about 100 a hit on normal hits and 140-180 on criticals to give you some numbers.
This place is actually pretty nice at 38 and I think it would have been good at 37 if I had stuck with it (SSG was also good at 37 though). You want to use the Jagils (pugs), Krakens, Clots (if you can charm them, I didn't attempt it), and maybe Alraune (black mandies) as pets. You can attack the Toucans (same moves as Bibiki ravens) and Alraune. The Toucans should be your primary target as they are easy to kill and respawn pretty fast. If you can find a camp with 2 reasonable pets and enough prey, you are good for some good xp. The Toucans and Jagils do NOT link, the black onions do.
Here's where I saw mobs at:
West beach: (didn't look very good)
~4 Jagils
~1 Toucan
a few Alraune
East beach: (ok, but I was running out of prey)
2 Jagils on beach
1 Kraken in north corner of beach
1 clot (it stayed out of the way)
2 Toucan spawns (might have been 3)
there are about 4 Alraune spawn nearby, most just NW of beach
South beach: (this is the area I recommend)
on beach:
2 Jagils
1 Kraken on west end of beach
1 clot (wanders around beach area)
a bunch of shell things (weak pets, but can be used to pull)
1 Alraune
1 ??? Warmachine (shows up on widescan, counts as NPC, nothing to be afraid of, only makes sounds when clicked on)
in tunnel to NE of beach:
2 Jagils (I'm guessing this is where Erockrph was referring to)
2 Toucans
2 Alraune
in tunnel to NW of beach:
lots of opo-opo
a few Alraune
I camped on the south beach. I was lucky and when I came back the Kraken was EM. This thing makes an awesome pet, just make sure you don't get aggro from it after using Leave. It hits Toucans for 60-100 on normal hits (depending on level of Toucan) and 140-180 on criticals. It also has really good special moves (regen, evasion boost [or maybe def, forget], an ~230 dmg attack move, and ~350 dmg attack move). It does have one AoE attack move (Maelstrom) that I only saw it use once. The Jagils are also pretty decent pets, so if the Kraken is too high when you get here, I would suggest using the Jagils just NE of the beach. I was using the Kraken and the Jagil on the beach as my pets. When I ran out of Toucans on the beach, I grabbed some from just NE of the beach. If I ran out of those, I grabbed an Alraune from NW of the beach.
The Toucans were hitting me for about 50 dmg or so and the Alraunes for about 35 dmg but they attack twice. The level 38 Kraken could just about solo any of the Toucans or Alraunes without assistance. It's safe to assist on these targets although Alraunes have the annoying Dream Flower move. Toucans only have Wing Cutter which is cone of affect so it shouldn't be hitting you. I charmed an opo-opo on my way out, and I wasn't impressed with it as a pet. A DC opo-opo needed significant assistance against a DC toucan, whereas Jagils and Kraken can solo these.
The tunnels running around the island mostly have Alraune and opo-opo. I think the beaches are the real prize locations here, especially south beach, but east beach isn't too bad. I tried continueing hear at 39 but I didn't like it very much. I did grind out a half a level anyway. The Toucans start spawning DC sometimes at 39 which prevents decent chains."

"I went from 35-36 here.
This... is a very nice area ^^ I've heard of people going here as early as 33, but I have trouble seeing this place being very effective without Leave. Basically, feel free to use any EM's as pets, although I found Rarabs to be most effective, followed by Dhalmel, with Efts being least effective.
For prey... feel free to kill anything T or above ^^ The level ranges are as follows:
Efts 33-36
Goblins 33-36
Dhalmel 34-37
Rarabs 34-38
Ravens 36-39
A good principle is to start your chain with T Efts or Goblins and end with high-end Rarabs or Ravens to attain good experience bonuses. The area is tightly packed, so it's very easy to get experience chains. This is also a good area to get used to Leave, as there is a zone nearby and none of the mobs except for the Goblins aggro.
Highly recommended by me for level 35, possibly 36 ^^"

"The patch seems to have completely changed the G6-F7 area of Bibiki. Most significant is the addition of Tragopan birds, which are 71-73, linking, non-aggro. There are now Catoblepas in this area too; they are 76-78, lower level than the old ones to the south. This means Bibiki is viable BST territory sooner than before. I'd come here for 71-72.
The best camp for BST is the plateau in G-6. This plateau has 4 Tragopan and 2 Tropical Rarab. The surrounding area has Catoblepas, more Tragopan, and the lower level gobs (Martialist, Venerer, Animalier, Fascinator). A solo BST can fight Rarabs and gobs; a duo or trio would fight the Catoblepas.
Sounds good, right? The problem is competition for mobs. When I was leveling there today in duo at 72, by the time I had to leave there were two parties trying to xp on the birds, so we often didn't have any fresh pets for pulling. We also had competition for the dhalmel prey, which meant that we couldn't consistently chain 4 as we could have if we were by ourselves.
In duo we were doing 3-3.5k/hr, which is about the same as we had been doing in sky the previous day. Without competition, this would be a wonderful spot, but I expect there will be competition most of the time.
At 73 we moved south to F-8/9, where the Catoblepas are 78-80. This is BST wonderland if you don't have competition; we were getting regular chain 4 and about 5k/hr, which is crazy for a BST duo.""I have nothing to say and I'm saying it in poetry." ~John Cage

Re: Bibiki Bay*
Quick update to this entry,
I hit the dock area to re-ding 36 (if you're a Bst you know what I mean) at 36 all the mobs at the dock area started to con DC to EM with very few T's so I headed up to the area between the entrance to the zone and the dock.
This area at 37 was fabulous. Managed to find 2 EM Rarabs and 1 EM Raven with large roaming areas which meant you didn't have to be overly careful when releasing them to avoid de-popping.
With the changes to Bst and no exp. loss it was really fast. I was /whm and had to rest only 3x for mp and I was using dia and slow pretty frequently. If you help your pet you should be able to finish off a T release your pet, grab another and go right into another.
Happy hunting.
