  • BST Gear Check

BST is technically my first direct melee job (COR and RNG being indirect with guns, usually) and I guess I'm just posting this to fill some holes. The Accuracy Bonus traits from RNG, /RNG and /DNC have kinda spoiled me elsewhere, so I feel I'm still lacking in accuracy.

At least, that's what my Rampages are telling me. I never seem to break 500, though I ame going without /NIN for now and throwing down against RoZ/CoP mobs mostly, not the squishies ToA provides. I guess you could say I'm in these camps for the money to be made on drops. Diremites are treating me well down here for that gil.

Anyway here's the gear set at level 68 BST

    Head: Celata
    Body: Hauburgeon
    Hands: Gothic Gauntlets
    Lege: Sipahi Zerehs
    Feet Gothic Sabatons
    Neck: R.G. Collar
    Ear1 & 2: Fang Earrings
    Ring 1: Phalanx Ring
    Ring 2: Ecphoria Ring
    Back: Amemet Mantle
    Waist: Life Belt
    Main Hand: Darksteel Axe +1
    Shield: Darksteel Buckler

Now, I should note that I do prefer those gothic pieces for solo, I've found the Ice Spikes effect does proc often when I get hit and seeing paralyze and killer effects proc is nice. For PTs in the future, I know I'll need Walhra Turban, Dusk Hands/Feet and Swift Belt.

Since Foobar can't get the Rajas Ring (SCH wanted Tamas), I know Phalanx needs to be replaced with Woodsman or Snipers. And I need to work on getting that swift belt to replace lifebelt. Chivalrous chain to replace Royal Guard Collar on neck.

Pallas and Tatami Shield look tops for BST. Replacing Hauburgeon with Hauberk at next level. Be nice to get some evasion back, if only a bit.

Have a Rainmaker waiting at 69, but curious what Axes I should invest in after that one. I never got around to Kabrakan's but that looks very beneficial for solo given the proc effect. I'm taking /NIN into consideration for axes, so i know I'll be buying more than just two. I need a solo set and a PT set.

Guess I'm just looking for advice on upgrades I might be overlooking.

    Re: BST Gear Check

I think you covered yourself too well. Otherwise...

Kabrakan's will never proc when you need it to, so don't bother.

Dual Rune Axe + Gaudy Harness at 70 for solo.

Pallas will probably be stupidly over priced and I can bet in a blind test you won't notice much difference anyway (otherwise there should be plenty of BSTs/DRGs or PUPs/SMNs singing praise about Askar Dirs/Goliard Trews respectively. Stick with Tatami.

You got cash for Exorcist Hose? That should replace your leg slot perfect.

Don't buy the JSE. Unless you're a career BST.

    Maybe buy Trainer's Gloves (cheap): DEF:22 HP+20 MP+20 CHR+5 Enmity-2 LV 70 BST

+4 Enmity will not kill you unlike some people's views on Enmity. So keep those. Plus they look cool.

Orge Gloves to weaponskill in maybe. Orge Feet for melee.

Hauberk, choice is yours. It looks better for BST anyway :p

      O.o I always thought you were a 75 BST.

As for rampage, it's just a really wonky WS and you won't see great numbers on it until Woody/Maneater.

I consider Foobar a career BST, but SCH would clearly be his endgame calling card. BST is there to make the gils for everything else I play, so I'm willing to invest in JSE if it helps in spots.

It looks stupid on the larger male races, though XD

          Ok, in this case:

          The JSE:

          Bison Warbonnet
          [Head] All Races
          DEF: 25 MP +8 Enmity -1
          Reduces "Reward" recast time
          Vs. Beasts: "Charm"+5
          Lv. 71 BST

is probably what is only needed to reduce the Reward recast time. The other pieces can be replaced with better stuffs. Although as mentioned before, if you want to run around in a unique look then the whole set is recommended if you got the cash. The rest is extremely situational and not worth the inventory space (for the Charm+ Duration). It is recommended you use AF/Relic instead as it applies to all mobs.

And since we're on about career BSTing:

To squeeze the most out of Reward:

          Zoraal Ja's Axe x2 (+20%)
          Ogre Gloves (+10%)
          Beast Gaiters (+10%)

For a massive +40% boost. Alternatively, Monster Gaiters give 20% for a massive 50% boost.

Stick MND in the other slots to increase the HP cured per biscuit. Unless your pet has a status effect on it, Kirin's Osode should be used, otherwise stick with Beast Jacket.

If you do Nyzul grab a Double Axe and unlock Primal Rend, stack CHR + Magic Attack Bonus (Moldavite and Ugg. Pendant with under 50% HP) on when using Primal Rend for some nice magic damage. Temperance Axe and Muse Tariqah, combined with Osode and other bits of CHR ring/gear you use for Charming should (I haven't tried) produce generous damage, and it cannot miss.

I have not unlocked Primal Rend yet.

EDIT: I just reread your comment, if you're only using it to make gil then you don't really need to do much in my opinion, unless your hunting big money NMs. And if you are hunting big money NMs you won't be meleeing anyway (or die). Of course you can always melee and then when your wild pet dies, call a jug pet and snarl and put it on the NM and go find another wild pet...

Guess while I'm on the topic, is Panzer Galahad really that good? I've been stocking jugs for ChopsueyChucky, LifedrinkerLars, VoraciousAudrey, Coldblood Como and Courrier Carrie. I've yet to try Panzer Galahad because of its expense over the other jugs, but I've liked those other jugs so far.

AmbusherAllie was a little too soft in the HP, though, not getting more of those. Coldblood Como seems to be the better lizard jug.

I haven't used Panzer, but from what I've read, I expect it to be pretty much the same as CC. Panzer might be a useful substitute for CC if you're fighting something that intimidates Aquans or your fighting something that heavily uses Thunder based attacks (like for fighting Ramuh Prime).

Don't use damage to determine whether you have enough accuracy. Instead, use your TP return. Take your Rampage macro and add "/wait 2" and "/echo TP return <tp>" to the end of the macro. What TP return you should see on a fully connected Rampage will change based on the delay of your weapon. But with time, you'll see what that TP return should be. If you're hitting that amount of TP return about 75% of the time, you're doing pretty good on accuracy for Rampage.

As a BST, you're not going to pump out gaudy Rampage damage that you'll hear career WARs bragging about. They have merits and Aggressor that lets them eat meat and macro out acc gear for STR gear when they Rampage, and then Berserk to push their Rampage damage. On top of that, a lot of the epeen damage that gets tossed around will have been done in a merit party with 2 BRDs.

I believe Panzer is really only just used for the Maat fight (which I'm not doing until I merit my BST a bit)

Lifedrinker and Amigo are by far the best DD jugs, while CC and PG are for tanking (though I'd go with CC)

                  Re: BST Gear Check

Well, here's what I ended up going with:

                  Head: Celata
                  Body: Hauburgeon -> Hauberk
                  Hands: Gothic Gauntlets
                  Lege: Sipahi Zerehs
                  Feet Gothic Sabatons
                  Neck: R.G. Collar
                  Ear1 & 2: Fang Earrings
Ring 1: Phalanx Ring - Venerer Ring
                  Ring 2: Ecphoria Ring
                  Back: Amemet Mantle
                  Waist: Life Belt
Main Hand: Darksteel Axe +1 -> Rainmaker
Shield: Darksteel Buckler -> Viking Shield

Figured I'd take a minor upgrade on the new ring so I could grab a Viking Shield, which got cheaper and plentiful of late on Odin.

Probably gonna work out upgrades for neck and waist next, which means down the depths of Sacrarium for me.

                    Re: BST Gear Check

Not bad, that will do actually. Because most gear before 74 counts as gear to help you bridge to 75, no need to focus too much on it.

Why Rain Maker? Or is it really cheap on your server (10000g on Quetz

Actually, looking at the list of axes there's not really a good/decent damage axe that is as cheap. So nevermind.

                      Re: BST Gear Check

Yeah, I didn't see many axes that were a massive improvement from what I had just yet, gotta wait til 72 at least for something a bit better. I just put it to the test a little while ago, its decent enough to get by on, plus I can get some STR from in Campaign (though that's really just to get a buffer in the start of a level and secure the next one, I go EXP elsewhere in between to cap axe and make gil) and the delay is pretty low for an axe and the overall damage is still comprable to most this level.

Guessing this axe is a really common Stronghold NM drop. Figured I could get my money back on Darksteel Axe +1 by getting this one.

Now to save for the really good axes, I'll hold out on dusk since I can borrow it off my other character.

I forget, do you have to main hand the Maneater to get the latent, or can you still get it in your offhand?

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

Offhand works too. The default 2 axe setup for BST is/was:

                          Woody/Man

                          Man/Jugg works good too.

I use Maneater/Iron Ram personally. Woody's only 1 more base D than Maneater and I'd rather have the +10 attack from Iron Ram's Pick in my off hand.
