I thought it would get better but from level 1-58 it's the same thing, I cant attack anything, it's very boring.
Pets can hold hate, you're just doing it wrong. Try using Sic and allowing your pet to melee for a few rounds before engaging. If you're using jugs, Snarl is your best friend after using Rampage.

Wow... I finaly got 53 (and a buffer thank god) and decided I'd finally like to see the SUN after a year in gustav (university). So I packed my things and went to Xarcabard as BST/DNC...

Long storyshort I was allmost killed twice by the same ghost (who did kill me once). How can you level there!? I tried to look around for a clearing but the only one i could see was a tiny tiny area by the opflag. There were Ahriman flying everywhere, and a good cuple of skeles and another ghost in range of me to see them, it's crazy. Ok my death was more due to being slept for allmost the entire fight, but still I can't ee myself getting any exp there lest I find a damned safe place to sit to fight.

        Xarc fucking sucks.

You absolutely must keep your HP higher than 75% until levels 57~

Use a tiger or funguar pet and make sure you spam Snarl to avoid all possible hits. But even then Ice Spikes from Mage Bones and Bones' general ever so annoying TP moves (black cloud/blood saber) creates one absolute of an annoyance to do anything there.

Got a NPC? I did WHM/WAR there from 54~59 in between WHM/BST Garlaige Citadel (sometimes other BSTs were at the bomb camp), NPC was in Hand To Hand mode, Fierce Attacker, mobs go down a bit quicker. I imagine a BST/DNC with an attacking NPC should plough through the mobs a bit faster, or healer type NPC to keep your HP up more of the time.

Or, hone up your skills and slug it out in Crawler's Nest. Exorays make awesome pets and can take down most mobs with your help. Musshusshuus (scorps) might be a bit of a problem if they get a lucky Death Scissors for 700+ damage off which will severely cripple your pet.

I went to happy slappy slime land... and got my ass handed to me. died at 10% on first, died at 1% on the second, and the third the slme used some WS hat did 300 dmg when it was about 5% left and just owned it, so i used leave and RAN lol.

Got my disheartned so I called it quits for that level session lol. Did get 250 for the one VT bat that i did kill, If i was 54 and had both AF peices that damn charm might have lasted a bit longer and let me win each round instead of none of them ¬,¬

want to try CN but I've been told so many different areas i there, and also seen 3 places with big shiney (DUO ONLY!!!!!!!111!!) signs hangng on them, that was a bit confusing...

You know, I totally forgot about the slime place, primarily because it is NOT suitable at all for subjob BST play.

Dark Aspics are 52-54, if you charm a 52 one (Decent Challenge to you, as you're 53) it should last 7-8 minutes.

Even Matches are roughly 5 minutes, give or take. Toughs you shouldn't even bother with.

*None of the calculations above take AF into account

What were you doing inbetween charming and heading to the mob? I understand the fights can be slightly tricky there due to how the bats can scale up to as high as level 59 which can severely lengthen out the fight as your slime will keep missing. If you are using DNC subjob, Quickstep can prove tremendously helpful if it lands, since you will lower the bat's evasion.

Tough it out for 2 more levels and you will get access to Rampage which can speed up your kills somewhat.

Did you also look for the new FoVs? I was wondering what attracted you over to the snowy wasteland.

In Zitah you can charm a Courel (strongest mob there charmable) and go (safely) killing all sorts there, I recommend page 3 where it's 7 leeches and 3 mushrooms, both very common mobs and hardly anything will aggro you there at 53.

humm I never thought of the lower lv areas ding higher lv things... duhh. I went to xar jst because it seemed like the next logca place to me i gess heh.

As for the slime camp, all the bats were VT and all the imes were DC when i was there, I'd charm then throw them right at the bat and spam debuffs right away then get in there with my slime. I only won the third round because of the insane sic skill it used.

                Re: BST lv 50...

I know I am a few weeks late to this post but I just when through the sewers under Sandy. I leveled there until 57 when the exp started to get slow.

Since level 53, made few macros to deal with mischarms (thanks to getting my butt handed to me by the slimes).

1st macro was my charm macro. I separated it into two macros. A charm gear swap macro and a charm macro. The charm macro is where I equip a light staff (if not already equiped), charm, and after 1 second it switches to a earth staff (20% damage reduction).

2nd macro was my telling the pet to fight. I separated it into two macros. A fighting gear swap macro and a fight macro. The fight macro equips my Axe and shield and tells the pet to attack my target.

3rd macro was Divine Seal + Cure 3. Seven mischarms on a slime made me wish I had made it earlier.
