  • Farming Codexes as BST

    Soooo, I haven't played BST in about 3+ years, and even then I only leveled it to 14. I now have a 60+ one at my disposal, and I need a couple of spare Fomor Codexes, I was planning on farming them @ the Aqueducts. The main thing I'm curious on is what pets to use. Will the Slimes/Fish near the entrance work just fine, or do I need to go further in and get a VT+ one? Also, is there a way to avoid the pet getting doomed, or do you just run and grab a new one? Any other little tips and whatnot are welcome as well.

    Thanks in advance!

    The fish, slimes and bats there work just fine. they are much easier in Aquadacuts than in sacrarium. Just go to that first circle room, and start killing them.

      My experience with codex's was all in Sacrarium. That was rather easy as well though, there are 2 Hexeye's in the first main hallway and 1-2 spawn points of a Taurus right there, and then 2 Hexeye's in the southern hallway (on the steps) and 1 possible Taurus spawn point there (shared with one of the spawns from first hallway).

      Strategy was always engage pet > Sic > engage (unlocked, in case you take hate). There are bats nearby incase of early doom, but it rarely happened. Aquaducts, I'd use slimes over fish. Taurus in the first area are generally weak, and you should have little trouble killing them.

      Keep in mind, killing Taurus DOES lower fomor hate. A member of my static swift belt group didn't realize this until after farming the codex and then trying to pop the fomor immediately... ; ;

        Thanks, I've apparently gotten roped into tanking all of CoP for my g/f's group, so in return I'm making them do a few Swift pops and get me a RDM subby when we do Sacrarium this week. The hate doesn't matter as much since it's my alt character I'll be farming them on, and I'm pretty sure I want to pop it on their Tarus rather than on one of my Elvaan, I've heard the Elv version is really rough.

          Actually, the Taru mob is a bio..yea, you get the idea lol.

          Hume or Mithra (in that order) is really the ideal ones. 2 BST can duo either of those no problem by 2hr'ing the IT hecteyes. If you really wanna go with the Taru, you should bring ample curing jobs and stunners. The taru (if I remember correctly) is BLM/SMN, and uses a staff, which means not only does he get to use Astral Flow, but he can do the Grim Halo move (AoE large dmg).

          Good luck on the runs, my group had a little over 50% drop rate taking a THF along to each run.

            Gross, I'll have to try to find a Hume to help then, pretty much everyone involved in the run is going to be Taru or Elv.

              I only know about the Taurus in Phomiuna Aqueducts but maybe I can give some pointers. This is from soloing perspective.

              In Phomiuna, you can eighter use DC Gloops (slime) to fight DC Taurus or Familiar VT-IT Oil Spill (slime) and fight IT Stegosaurs. DC Taurus are easier and safer but I've heard that they have lower drop rate on Codex (unconfirmed). I've had a Codex drops from both.

              If you insist on fighting Stegosaurs, you might be able to use DC Gloop to pull Stegosaur up a ladder and finish it with T Canal Bats. I have only done this against Fomors though, so I'm not sure how it'd go. Pulling a Stegosaur all the way to the entrance to fight with the Gloops there is a waste of time.

              I posted something about fighting Taurus-type monsters and Fomors in How to solo your Gaudy -thread. You might be able apply some of strategies I mentioned there. Here's a compilation of pointers for the lazy.

              <How to fight Taurus-type in a Nutshell>
              - Filter all damage
              - Do not melee, let pet fight alone
              - Stand far enough not to be hit by AoEs and have your back turned at the Taurus (you also need enough room between you and your pet to make sure your pet turns its back to Taurus when Heeled)
              - Be ready to hit your Heel macro immediately when you see Mortal Ray incoming (this is really all you need to concentrate on)
              - Use Reward (if needed) only after Taurus uses a TP move so you don't have to worry about Heel right away

                Honestly Elvaan isn't that bad, it's just a THF; so has the natural THF evasion.
