What exactly happens with enmity when Leave is used?

A long time ago, while aggro kiting two Mammets in CoP 2.5 as THF/NIN, my BST friend tried to help me out by taking on one of the Mammet with his antlion familiar. When he used Leave, both of the free Mammets went right after him and KO'ed him in seconds. (The third one was being tanked.)

Now, I could not be absolutely sure he didn't do something to the other Mammet, but as it was on my tail until he used Leave, and I was aggro kiting (didn't hit it or anything), I would suspect he had not.

Why did both Mammets went after him upon using Leave?

    Re: Leave and Enmity

When a pet takes hate first, BST is always next on the list if the pet dies or Leave is used.

Leave also generates a degree of enmity, as to most job abilities, the BST may have been close range enough to gain the hate of the second mammet. At any rate, based on the success and failures I had with Airship. Mammets don't need much to be peeled off whoever is kiting, using a job ability is usually more than enough to grab attention.

I did this CoP 2-5 BCNM on my BST once as well. I'd get hate off one of the secondary mammets when I'd use Sic at times on the main target.

If they're not engaged, Mammets will keep the same person targetted until they're killed.

Right. Except, in my case, it didn't--the Mammet on my tail ditched me to kill my BST friend instead.

I wonder why Leave would aggro the second Mammet, though. It never did make sense to me.

This is my assumption as well, and it explains first Mammet nicely.

This doesn't make as much sense; BST was on the first Mammet's enmity list (he used pet to attack), so Leave either added to his enmity or transferred the pet's, I can get. But, neither he nor his pet (I assume) ever touched the second Mammet, so his Leave (which targeted himself, not the Mammet), shouldn't have done anything to the second Mammet.

Keep in mind that our tank was voking (and casting the wheel) like mad the whole time (trying to keep the RNG alive). If Mammet aggro to using JA, the NIN should've been clobbered, not BST.

Hmm. Maybe I misremembered, and it was Sic instead of Leave. Either way, the mechanism is still rather baffling.

... Got any good theory on enmity and Sic?

        Edit:
My LS frequently used THF/NIN for aggro kiting in CoP 2.5; weird Mammet movements like that never happened again, but we never had BST again, either.

Mammets have strange hate rules. If you /heal within a certain area of them they will come off the kiter and attack the person resting.

Edit: The same goes for SMN. If they dismiss an avatar, they get hate from the mammets.

            Sandpit - Single target Bind
            Sandblast - AoE Blind
Venom Spray - Frontal Cone Poison
Mandibular Bite - Single target attack

If your bst friend used sic, theres a good chance that of it's 4 TP moves it used the AoE blind or cone poison attack. So there would be the reasoning for getting on the hate list, and adding leave after that would only add to the enmity. I have found that a major concern on bst leveling, it seems that all pets have some sort of AoE attack that they love to spam and the wrong moments.

I'm curious as to why the bst would use leave in the BC though? Or did the pet die from attacks? I'm also assuming either the timer for 'Call Beast' wasn't up. But regardless, if the bst used sic (meaning the pet meleed to 100 TP) and it decided AoE blind was a good idea, you bst friend just got on everyones hate list. Since you only had sight aggro from the mobs, the bst was the only one on the hate list then.

Well, that shouldn't apply to the situation, since there was a Mammet after me, and I didn't do anything to it--I was an aggro kiter. Plus, I and my Mammet were pretty far away from him at the time when it suddenly went after the BST.

Not sure, but Call Beast timer was definitely up, since I had him use Call Beast ASAP when we entered the BC, and we took a while to buff and waited an additional minute or two just to make sure he'd have the timer.

I did discuss Charm-bind kiting with him, though, as a possible tactic. Perhaps he just use Leave out of habit?

                Re: Leave and Enmity

Even AOE blind shouldn't generate hate for the BST unless they did it in range of the Mammet. Even then, i dunno. Just think when you exp. If your pet does aoe and hits another mob, you can leave it and only the mob you are fighting comes at you. I use this all the time when soloing. Even if your pet takes links, leave or let it die and only the original mob comes at you. I use that all the time to get rid of links or anything my pet hits with AOE.
