  • /BST soloing.

Hello again BSTs of the world.

I took up BST as a job becuase I really began hating partying. It just bothered me... everything about it. But this is not a rant about partying or anything of the sort. This is a question about using BST as a sub.

I have WHM at 21 and NIN at 5 or something close to that. I want to lvl them both to 37 so I can use them as subs. I don't so much mind lvling NIN to 37 on it's ow except that it will be ridiculasly expensive, But I HATE being the WHM in a party. I get blamed for everything.

So I know that your Charm is not related to your subed BST but to the lvl of your main job with BST as a sub. And I know that WHM do a fair bit of damage with a hammer. But I want to know if anyone has succesfully lvled jobs with BST as a sub.

Basicly is there a guide anywhere that has information on this, or does anyone have pointers on this one.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: /BST soloing.

Don't have a guide, but my sister leveled NIN to 37 with /BST.

The common belief is that your BST must be at least as high as your current main job to be able to land Charm well on /BST. Otherwise, it pretty much an extension of BST style playing, sans Jug Pets.

Depending on your main, you may be able to play a little differently. For example, on NIN, you can afford to let Pet die a little early, and solo your way to the end of the mob's HP, especially after you have Utusemi: Ni.

On main jobs with native enfeebling magic (e.g. WHM and RDM), you can land debuffs like Paralyze and Slow, to extend your pet's life. (Which is a good thing, since you won't have Reward until Lv.46.) Ninjutsu works about the same. With full strength Stoneskin and Barfira/Barfire, you may be able to melee alongside your pet on Goblins, too.
    Bamboo shadows sweep the stars,
    yet not a mote of dust is stirred;
Moonlight pierces the depths of the pond,
leaving no trace in the water.

      Re: /BST soloing.

I've been levelling NIN/BST for the past week, and it's going great. I'm using my Anniversary Ring so it's going faster than normal though.

My BST is 75 as of a couple months ago. I just hit 29 NIN today. 1-12 I just killed a ton of small stuff /WAR. I ended up partying in the Dunes 12-16 just to get some party experience. After that I only partied for 2 levels in Qufim.

I really like NIN/BST. I'm only working with +15 CHR and I've had very few charming problems, other than the normal mischarms at the most inconvenient moments. With NIN it's easy to make a good pet last a couple fights. I share hate and keep shadows up.

Since I'm poor AND cheap, soloing as NIN/BST in great. I went 18-29 with the same gear, so I'm saving lots of gil. So far I've only used about 7 stacks of sheihi.

The big test for me is coming up. When I was first levelling BST, I dinged 30 five times in Qufim. I'm hoping that doesn't happen again.

I'd post a link to my journal, but this forum won't let me.

          Re: /BST soloing.

I am an avid /BST'er. Sorry I haven't posted earlier, I kinda haven't been to this forum in a while. Basically, any job can be levelled as /BST, but some are just easier than others. Ninja is extremely easy. I levelled NIN/BST all the way to 75. It was the most fun I have had on this game without a doubt. The best part is that your cost goes WAY down. You don't spam the wheel or anything like that. You don't use nearly as many shihei, unless you want to. I did use a fair amount of the debuffs to make fights easier, but still the cost of using those was MUCH lower than a party ninja.

I have taken RDM and THF to 37 on /BST and DRK to 75. I love soloing, and I detest parties like you. There is no /BST guide on this forum as far as I know, but there is a nice one on Alla BST forum under The BST Compilation Sticky! My DRK/BST Diary is linked in that /BST thread by Zerila.

WHM/BST I have not done, I did it all in a party. I know someone who did it to 75, and he LOVED it. Best of luck!
